So, apparently, while I wasn't looking, this popped up.

Gametap is a monthly fee service which allows you to play nigh on 700+ games, most of which are on consoles that don't even exist except in some of our memories (and in the houses of hardcore gaming geeks of yesteryear) along with some recent title, like the new Sam and Max games.

$9.95 a month. For 700+ games.

VALUE.

I am so subscribing to this once I get my own income flowing.

You just found out about this? Where have you been hiding? But yes... it is a VERY good deal, and they claim that they add a few games a week. You'll find a few games parodied on H*R as well, like Barnstormer. I would like to subscribe soon, when I get a job and a reasonable source of income. Enjoy it when you do get it though.

Yeah, great value. I'm hoping to get it once I get high speed. Another thing is that it is now for purchase in Canada.

I'm reviving this thread to inform those who didn't know, that Gametap now has a free service and every week there are 30-ish different games you can play.

Guys, Gametap now has Psychonauts on it.

In related news, it is now required by international law for all those who have not played this game to play it. Those with a Gametap subscription have three days to get (I presume you download the games from the site) before you are hauled off to the insane asylum. Those without GameTap subscriptions and have not played this game, you are to proceed to get at least one month of this service just to play this game.

Or you could buy it somewhere.

Y'know, AoF's constant lauding of this game had made me decide to try it. Thing is, do I get it for PS2 or Xbox? AoF, which is better, and why? Maybe I'll get it at EB Games...crap...I mean Gamestop when I go out to deposit/cash my $300+ paychecks and possibly get the Mission: Impossible trilogy tomorrow...er...today.

But, AoF, if I don't like it, I'm blaming you and taking your car Tongue

The only difference I can tell between the PC/PS2/XBOX versions is that the XBOX and PC versions are a little more detailed and look overall better graphically wise, largely due to the larger horsepower and the PC/XBOX being the game's native systems (the PS2 version is a port that came out several months after the XBOX/PC versions). Really, it comes down to this: If you can find a copy of the game for both systems at the same price, it comes down to the hardware itself: Hardrive space vs. Memory card space, Xbox Controller vs. PS2 Controller, and graphical importance. But if you can find it for either system, it'll be fine.

I have the PS2 version and it works perfectly fine. I can tell that the graphics are a little better on the other systems, but I don't really care that much.

They have quite possibly the best game up for free, Metal Slug. Last week they had Metal Slug 1 up for free so I played it and beat it. This week they have Metal Slug 2 up. I've never played these games untill now. I can't believe I was missing out on such a fun game. Also Root Beer Tapper is quite possibly the hardest game I ever played.

I'm reopening this topic nearly a year later because, has of April I -have- a Gametap subscription. And it is -awesome-.

On the offchance that any other U.S. residents (and only U.S. residents, sorry everyone else) have GameTap accounts, we can, like, put our TapIDs here and junk.

Mine is: Lufis (I know, I'm so original)

and, as mentioned before, about one tenth of their selection is available for free via GameTap Basic. And c'mon, you can try one month of Gold for a buck! Best buck you'll ever spend, I swear it.

[more plugging that you can choose to ignore]

I mean, just take a listen to some of these games you can get if you go gold:

Planescape: Torment
Shining Force
Age of Wonders II
Galaga (okay, maybe Galaga isn't that big of a draw, but I don't care, Galaga's awesome)
Metal Slug 1-5 and X
The Oregon Trail (if you don't think this is a draw, may you die of dysentery)
Sam and Max Seasons 1 & 2 (Episode 4 of Season 1 is available for free)
Psychonauts
Sid Meier's Pirates! (the 2005 remake)
Civilization III Gold
Civilization IV
Ducati World Championship (omgmotorcyclesomg)

[/more plugging that you can choose to ignore]

I use free Gametap, and I'm not even registered.  I've gotten Mega Man: The Power Battle, Abe Lincoln Must Die, The 2 G & Gs, and Bubble Bobble.  My brother got some other games that I don't really care for.  I tried to get Psychonauts, but I couldn't play it.

Meh.  It's rated M, so I'd better steer clear of that.
