I do have someone. Well... kinda. In these crazy high school relationships we are apparently at the "talking" stage, whatever that means. But Snakewater can attest to this, with him making up various (or just the same one over and over again) pet names for her while on a Spring Break trip.

The "talking" stage? What's that supposed to be? If every girl who talk to me was considered my girlfriend, why, I'd have 2 girlfriends.

I'd have *counts* ... like, 7. Not including the girls I don't know very well who are always eager to say hi to me daily.

I don't really know. We are basically a couple, but girls do this thing where they won't make it official until we go through a few stages.

No girlfriend.
No desire for a girlfriend.
Several girl friends though.
You'd be amazed how often people get the two confused.

High school social traditions are the worst. I don't get how so many people find it so easy to cling to the well defined, clichéd precedents of high school life. It concerns me that the actions of celebrities, fashionable trends, or the influence of some subculture can be allowed by so many to become such a point of reference for how they live their own lives. Some people are just so content and eager to live the generic American teenage life. So happy to be mad at their parents, so pleased to be at the center of strenuously complicated social entanglements, so proud of their complete lack of self confidence. Folks need to chill and look at things as they are.

Agh, don't relate that to Holden Caulfield. He rejected what he saw in favor of what he imagined. I reject what everyone seems to imagine in favor of what I see.

The basic summary of events is this. I like a girl and on Monday I find out she likes me back. Yesterday, I asked her out and she said yes. Why did I wait until Wednesday to ask her? Who knows.
