I'm sure you've all heard of this by now, but I guess I'll bring up this website again.

http://www.pandora.com/

Basically, you type a band or song you like, and they play it. Then they play another song that is similar musically to the song you just listened to (I typed in Mastodon and got Pantera and Lamb of God). It's a great way to be introduced to new music, and I've already bought quite a few CDs based on their recommendations.

Check it out.

I saw one of my teachers from last year use it, but I haven't used it yet.

We use this all the time on campus, teachers and students alike.  It's pretty good.

Anyways.  This website is incredibly awesome when it works.  A brilliant way of trying out genres of music, or bands, etc.  Learned about Clearance Clearwater, Big Band, and other things.

Thank you Sonic. Thank you for reopening that wound.

WHAT??! How can Pandora do that??!!!  They're not dreaming of a global Pandora -- they're just abusing the IP addresses like Viacom.  Sounds mostly like a way of hating Canada.  Pandora should be in America, Canada AND Britain.  They can't just diss non-America, especially if gonna be a neighbor that speaks the same language.

It has nothing to do with whether Pandora wanted to do it or not. Pandora themselves wanted to provide music to everyone. But they were facing legal action because they were providing other countries media, in this case music, that was not licensed in other countries.

It's the same deal with CBS or NBC or any station that allows you to watch their programming online. Those sites are restricted to those in the US, as those shows are distributed by other stations in Canada.

It's complicated, but altogether saddening that this crap has to happen. I am in no means defending the existence of such preposterous principles, but defending Pandora, who just grew too popular, ambitious, and awesome to not attract the legal vultures.
