XviD Issues

I have XviD on my laptop, but I was trying to install it on my mom's machine, and I can't get it to work right. I downloaded the .exe and executed it, and it installed in the DivX folder where my mom wanted it, but I still can't correctly play an .AVI that is encoded with XviD. I can see it but not hear it. How do I install the actual codec?
