So, yeah, this is sparked by The Sneak's remark in the "Controversial Comparisons" thread, but I've heard it said elsewhere that Coldplay is just bad. Notably, from my old pal o_O, who more or less introduced me to half the bands I listen to.
Now, I like Coldplay just fine. They hold a special place in my heart, as the first concert I ever went to, and that concert also being the first major evening I got to spend with my girlfriend at the time. So I'm curious who else likes 'em and why the people who don't, don't. Yeah, the guys voice can be grating at first, and Yellow is a bit too jambled for my tastes (I don't think that's a word, but it sounds appropriate), but I think Clocks and Speed of Sound are top-notch, and absolutely adore some of their other songs (Amsterdam jumps to mind).
But enough talk, have at you.

Good band. I've only really heard Clocks, which is one of my favorite songs.

Good news, everyone!

I dunno about anyone else, but I liked Viva la Vida so much, I bought it on iTunes. And I don't buy things on iTunes.
But, I dunno, that's about it. Otherwise, I just don't care either way.

Viva La Vida sounds good.
I never said they were bad, I just don't think that they are deserving of the hype they get.

I honestly had no idea they got noticeable amounts of hype. Of course, me and pop culture don't really see each other much.

Maybe it's just because my best friend thinks they are the best thing since everything.

Anyone got any thoughts on the new album? I think it's plenty good. Not the best thing since everything, but enjoyable enough.

The new album is their best work, IMO. That being said, I'm not a big fan of Coldplay (my friends all think they're the greatest band alive though) and I find a lot of their stuff kinda boring. But Viva La Vida is actually interesting all the way through.

well, it's a really good song at any rate. I don't really like the word "favorite"

Agree fully. Was a huge fan of Coldplay up until I got X&Y. That stinker of an album has made me leery of getting Viva.
