Are wireless mouses supposed to eat batteries alive?
« on: February 19, 2009, 06:51:55 pm »

My new-ish wireless mouse drains batteries like there's no tomorrow. I have to switch them out every three days or so. I bought some rechargeable batteries and it's pretty much the same result.

Is that normal or did I just get a crappy mouse?

That doesn't happen with mine, and it's like 4-5 years old, so....sounds like a bad mouse.

Unsurprisingly, Canada has run out of "u"s, and must now ration them off at one per post to make it through this bleak linguistic time.

I would only get one month out of my mouse that was supposed to get six months out of a pair of batteries.  Three days sounds like a bad mouse.

Yeah, the mouse I have at home can typically go 1-2 months on one pair of batteries. Definitely bad/defective mouse. What type did you get?

It all depends on the mouse for battery life, although 3 day seems extremely short. The standard Logitech optical mouse sends optical pulses 1500 times per second when in use. When not in use, it'll drop to 2 pulses per second. It's possible that the mouse is just not going into standby, thus constantly using an insane amount of power.
