Help; internet randomly slowing to crawl
« on: July 09, 2009, 02:31:04 pm »

Well, it's not the internet. It's Firefox. It's just slow.

I disabled some addons, restarted my computer, restarted Firefox, tried other programs as well, but I don't think I know how to fix this. Any ideas?

Edit: It's definitely Firefox. IE works fine. Er, IE works as fine as IE works, I mean.

On second thought, don't. It seems that some websites, as well as just prolonged web usage cause the CPU usage of Firefox to skyrocket and not come back down until the process is ended. This causes lag in all programs due the extra effort my computer has to put forth. I would like to know how to get this to stop. (I just reinstalled Firefox again; that didn't work). If it's important, I think this machine has a gig of RAM, but I can't check very easily because Firefox is running and is using most of the computer. I don't believe I have a virus and I've defragged recently. ?

Try Google Chrome.  Works a lot better for me than Firefox.

After this bugged me for almost a year, I found the solution.

I disable linkification. I don't know why, but my computer couldn't handle it. In MOST cases, links are automatically... link...y... so I figured that I didn't need to have it on.

(I guessed Linkification because it seemed to lag on pages with a lot of links on them... I don't know.)
