The Chort
|
Prologue:
It had been over a year and a half since the last marauding. We had barely escaped by the skin of our teeth last time. That mraked two times we had narrowly missed having everything we know and love rorped from our grasp.
Since then, everybrady had gone into strorct training. Each of us remembered that last time we barely skated by due to The Cheat's skills and what he had taught me. We all knew it could be up to any one of us to save the day when he returned.
None of us knew when he would be back. Some thought it would be soon after his last defeat, while others thought he would try to wait and catch us off our guard.
Whenever it was that he decided to show his little blue furry face in Free Country, USA again, we knew we had to be ready. But we had no idea what was in store for us.
These are The Final Chronicles of The Chort.

If you're new and/or have been hiding under a rock for the last year or so, you may not have gotten a chance to read my other works in the ChorTrilogy. Coach Z, The Cheat, and the rest of the gang have seen The Chort's villainy twice before. The first chapter of the ChorTrilogy introduces our nefarious villain as he tries to turn Free Country, USA against The Cheat. The Chort returns to wreak havoc on Free Country, USA in the second epic chapter of the ChorTrilogy. The Legend of The Chort was alright, people thought it was pretty good, but it feels a little sophomoric in comparison with The Revenge of The Chort, which is much longer and delves deeper into the characters and underlying emotions. Plus it's battle scenes are WAY more in depth and cool. But I am not rest on my laurels. I hope to blow the Revenge out of the water with The Final Chronicles. I have a vision of the scenes I want to describe to you already, and hope to really get some good visuals and emotions. Bear in mind that it will definitely take me a couple months to complete, but everytime I get a chapter done it'll be on as soon as I can.

Awesome stuff TC! I was wondering when there'd be a new chapter of awesomeness, and here it is!
The prologue sounds cool, and what is coming up should be great.

Chapter 1 - Foreboding
A shorver ran down my spine.
Nothing was the same since last time. The Cheat had stepped our training up, and several of us had seen great improrvements, but I still saw those menacing eyes everytime I tried ta sleep.
We had a vague idea that maybe The Chort would return last time, so we made a few precautions. This time, we all knew he was going to come back.
So many lorky breaks... So many clorse calls... Twice The Chort had attacked our peaceful little town, and twice he had been thwarted.
Looking back, I can't believe that we let The Chort get away. He was beaten, but we hadn't done anything to stop him from returning. Now he had more advantage than ever before.
The Chort knew our strengths, like The Cheat's skills with a golf clorb, but he also knew our weaknesses. Even though The Cheat, Strong Bad, and myself were all fairly good fighters, but we didn't have many others. This was almost our downfall last time.
The Cheat took charge of training us to get us ready for what was to come. In tha mranin's, Strong Bad, The Cheat, and myself all instructed our new pupils. We figured if each of us got trained one of tha guys who had raw talent, we could double our numbers of fighters.
Each of us carefully chose who we would undertake. Strong Bad figured his older brother would be the best choice, since he was so big and strong. He knew that the training hinged on whether or not he could control tha big guy's emotions. This proved to be a huge undertaking.
Out of all tha Free Country, USA people, I had it narrowed down to either Bubsy or Hamstray. But the more I thought about it, the more Ramrod seemed like tha Go-To Guy. Bubs consistently let us down the last times The Chort had appeared, and Homegrown was a terrific athlete... The prorblem I figured I'd have was keeping Stairmaster focused on the goal.
I really thought The Cheat would get Pom Pom to be his apprentice. It seemed like the perfect pair. But the first day of training, The Cheat walked up to tha fields next to That Goblin. I guess tha little guy really made an impression on The Cheat, because they started hangin' out a lot more after the second attack of The Chort.
After our mranin' workouts, our three pupils went off to train together, and test out what they'd learned against each other for the afternoon. Meanwhile, The Cheat instrorcted me and Strong Bad, so that we'd be improrvin', too.
Most everybody else spent their time rebuilding Free Country, USA. The Chort had really busted tha place up, so while we were trainin', they rebuilt everything from tha ground up. It took the better part of a year, but they finally got tha place looking like it used to.
And so time went by. The days flew past, with our training and rebuilding keeping us busy. But the nights all dragged on. Few of us ever got a real nights sleep. Personally, I wouldn't be able to nod off for at least an hour or so, and if I ever did get ta sleep, I'd fer sure wake up in tha middle of tha night in a cold sweat, envisioning the blue menace.

Whoa, awesome!! You really went into some great detail this time around, and it paid off. I got such a vivid impression of how things were in Free Country. Keep up the good work Chorty, you definitely improve every time you write.

Whoa! It only took you six minutes to realize I'd posted a chapter, read through it, and post comments! That's super fast! Think anyone can beat it? That's right, I'm challenging y'all to be on the lookout for more chapters, then to come and post comments really quickly!
I hope to update it again soon. It's hard to get back in the habit of typing in Coach Z dialect, though.

"A shorver ran down my spine."
That totally set the tone for the entire rest of the chapter and, I'm assuming, the story. Coach Z's accent helped brighten this dark tale, but not so much that you get distracted from what's written. Great job! I'm in awe of your ability to re-introduce a story without causing my eyes to glaze over in the slightest! If there was anything wrong with this chapter is the fact you only gave us one for now! I'll be keeping both of my eyes on this thread.

Wow...you always get the Coach Z talking down perfectly, as well as the suspense and general atmosphere. Truly great writing. If this is better than Revenge of The Chort, we're in for an uber treat.

Chapter 2 - Training
After The Chort's last attack, we knew we had to train. The Cheat trained me well enough to hold off The Chort on my own, but we needed to transfer that to the others.
I sorta half expected training Hamstray to be really hard, since the kid never could stay on task for more than five seconds, but he really impressed me from the first day.
"Coach, let's do this like Bwutus. I've gotta be able to defend Mawzipan fwom The Chort. Just tell me what to do, and I'll do it."
I was astornished. Homestar had never been serious about anything, as far as I knew. I guess the idea of The Chort gettin' to his girlfriend really hit 'im hard.
Strong Bad wasn't having quite as much luck as me, but Strong Mad was progressin'. He might notta been the smartest guy on tha block, but he was already showing that he'd be a great help. Soon after we started, I stopped by to watch one of their sessions.
"OK, Big Bro. I want you to take this club, and completely demolish whichever one of these you think is The Chort!"
Strong Bad uncovered Strong Mad's eyes. Before The Man Who Had No Neck were three colorful The Cheats made of tofu. One was red, one was yellow, and one was blue.
"BAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
I had ta turn away due to tha cranage. When my eyes went back, Strong Bad was smiling, even though everything near was covered in blue tofu.
I never really saw The Cheat and That Gorblin training. They always seemed to be gone earlier than any of us, and always were the last to show up for afternoon practice.
Our afternoon training sessions got pretty intense at times. Strong Bad and myself were usually pitted against each other, and those were always heated battles. I had the edge on him early on, because I'd been around to see more of The Cheat and The Chort's fights, plus I'd taken The Chort on by myself, but Strong Bad was learnin' fast, and he and I ended up pretty much equal.
The biggest challenge was when we both took on The Cheat. Each of us grabbed a clorb, and The Cheat grabbed two. At first, neither of us could get to him, even working together. The Cheat would block our blows, and even make us run into each other. But before long, we had improved a lot.
Soon, Strong Bad and I could disarm The Cheat if we worked together. We were all really surprised the first time that happened, except The Cheat. He'd been hoping we'd get that good.
"Meh heena meh meh!" said The Cheat. And so it was time for us to start going against him, one-on-one.
The whole time we trained, he was always just a little better than us. Every once in a while one of us'd think we had him, but he'd always pull out a win somehow.
But it was good times, and we were getting better all the time. As The Cheat got better, so did Strong Bad and me, and then Homegrown, That Gorblin and Strong Mad would improve.
Even though we had know idea when he would return, we were sure that we'd be ready. But we had no idea what he had in store for us.

I was astornished. Homestar had never been serious about anything, as far as I knew. I guess the idea of The Chort gettin' to his girlfriend really hit 'im hard. I don't know why, but I think I'm really going to enjoy the Homestar storyline in this one (sorry Strong Bad.) For some reason I'm really into the "Homestar Marzipan Dynamic" lately. I hope to see more of that later on. But I digress. This chapter was really good! I can tell you're planning to end the trilogy with a bang, maybe even multiple ones. I can only fathom one way The Chort could beat the Free Country Gang by every stretch of the imagination. But I have a feeling you'll surprise me in the end. I've given pretty long reviews to these, I guess that means they're even awesomer than I can express with my usual amount of words. Once again. Two eyes.

Chapter 3 - Preparations
Tha sound of metal on metal revorborated throughout Strongbadia. Hamstray and I were both winded, but our efforts were not without rewards. In the short months we'd used for trorning, he was already even better with a golf clorb than I was when The Chort attacked last. And he was still improrving every day!
But from what Strong Bad told me, his lessons were going even better. Strong Mad had gotten good enough to take Strong Bad out if SB started with one clorb and Strong Mad used two.
I could only guess what The Cheat and That Gorblin were up to, cause we never saw em. In fact, I never saw That Gorblin at all, at least not since he showed up last time bringing The Chort's hostages.
But that didn't phase me much. I mean, if Ramrod and Gron Mad could make such lorps and bounds under me and Strong Bad's collective tutelage, That Gorblin must be becoming a great fighter.
But it wasn't just us getting ready. Marzipan was using her gardening skills to grow brarmble hedges around everyone's houses, and all the other important staging points where we were more likely to end up fighting The Chort.
Bubs got his suppliers to sponsor us for extra provisions for our strongholds. We figured his underground base, the KoT's Castle, and the Strong House would be good places to hole up if need be.
I never had much time, so I didn't check in with tha KoT, Pom Pom, Strong Sad, The Poopsmith, or any of tha others. I just never had tha time to stop and chat. If I wasn't teachin' Stairmaster, I was takin' lessons from The Cheat. And all that wore me out so that I just wanted to sleep when we weren't workin'.
And so it went for tha next months. Training, learning, sleeping. Training, learning, sleeping. But the more we learned and the better we all became, the more we realized we were still not ready.
