Sightings Rules and What NOT to Post
« on: August 11, 2003, 06:06:10 pm »

Hello,
Just thought I'd make a quick post about what I need for a good Sighting.

First, it has to be interesting.  Seeing a guy with a knife, sadly, is not a H*R sighting.  Or drawing a picture of Trogdor, gluing it to your head, taking a picture, and sending it to me also is not a sighting. Seeing someone wearing an H*R t-shirt does not constitute as a sighting. Seeing Strong Bad on the jumbo-tron at a Baseball game.. and you got a GREAT picture of it.. IS a sighting!!

Second, try to get some kind of "proof" be it a picture.. or a link to a corroborating news article or something.   It's difficult for me to post, "My friend Joe.. saw a guy.. with a knife.. at the mall.. and he was screaming something about Strong Bad."   But if you had a picture.. and maybe some more info like.. the guy got arrested.. that is a great sighting. If your thread does not have "proof" of the sighting within three posts, it'll get locked.

Third, check the page to make sure I don't have it already.. it might be in the news section.. as sometimes I get confused.

Finally, if you think it's really golden and I should definitely post it.. email me and post it here to get my attention.. I'll try to give credit where credit is due as always..

Thanks!
-bhz

Hey, look what I found on page 6 of sightings! BHZ tells us what constitutes a good sighting!

I posted here because I thought we could all use a reminder on what the foundation of the Sightings forum is.

Okay, we've been getting a lot of threads that don't follow these requirements lately. If you have proof and didn't post it in the thread before it got locked, PM the proof to me and I can re-edit it into the thread and un-lock it for you.

Apparently the rules of Sightings has been unclear. This section is for members to post Sightings of H*R from the web or out in the real world, but there is a catch: it has to be appropriate.

Why does the link have to be appropriate? Because we have kids come on this site all the time. We don't want them, or anyone else who doesn't want to see that kind of stuff, to be surprised to see something not family-friendly.

How do you know if something is family-friendly? Take a look at the site and think about if you would feel good showing it to a ten year old and their parents. Don't link to a site if you would not be able to do that in good conscience.

If you do choose to link to a site that isn't family-friendly, you will quickly earn demerits or an instant ban. We will not tolerate inappropriate links on our forum.

We're starting a list of sites that have already been posted and are not appropriate. If you think we may be talking about a site you want to post, think whether it is worth a possible demerit or worse.

The smurf cartoon. If you don't know what it is, don't worry, but many members know that this cartoon is linked to often, even though it is very inappropriate. Anyone who links to it will quickly earn demerits.

We will add to this list as it becomes necessary.

Added to the list of things to keep off this site are the sightings that involve Master Chief. It has too much cussing, so don't post it here.

The flash movie Elvis Lives in Flash also has inappropriate parts, so don't post that either.

The Wikipedia BHZ sighting is not to be posted here, because of the inappropriate edits. Please do not post about it. Thanks.
