Once you posted in it, It was no longer old. You seem to have deleated your post, so I can't see if what you said was important or not. But either way...
A) Bethskye had something important to say anyways, as did the sneak, so we would just respond to that anyways...
and B) Once somebody posts in a thread, It's no longer old. It may seem unfair that the first person gets in trouble while the rest don't, but it's logical when you think about it.

There is a situation when it becomes appropriate to re-open a dormant or "dead" thread for discussion. If you have something new and pertinent to add to a thread which seems to have garnered a certain amount of popularity before dormancy then feel free to re-open it; however, the way that I re-opened this one was probably not entirely tactful. In the future, I'll do my best to set a better example with a slight acknowledgement that this thread was dormant at the time of my post and then to go on to make the point that I have new material that topic enthusiasts might find of interest. BACK ON TOPIC'd!

I just finished it a couple weeks ago. Pretty good.
SPOILER:
I didn't expect Murtagh to be a Rider, or Eragon's brother. Did anyone else think that they might be before you read this?

I did, but it was just a joke. Me and my friend were saying how stupid it would be if they were. But it was a great book nonetheless.

Actually, I did. You don't just kill off a major charecter with some whimpy little "We dunno what happened" scene. Seriously. I can always tell what's going to hapopen in fantasy books. Well, almost always. Faerie Wars caught me offf guard, but this... predictable. Good, but predictable.

SPOLIER AGAINYea, I was pretty sure Murtagh didn't actually die, but it didnt occur to me that he'd be another rider.

A'ight, I know this thread is several months old, but I just read the first book, so bear with me here.
My initial thinking of this book, before I read it, was from what I've heard. A good fantasy book to be sure, but like your typical fantasy book that was subsidiary to LOTR and Harry Potter. I had always wanted to read it, but never took the time to buy the book or check it out from the library.
Then my co-worker and I traded books for a while; she has Half-Blood Prince, and I have Eragon. The funny thing is how long it took me to actually get started. It was one of those "I wanna read it but I wish I could just be engrossed in reading it already" things. Finally, I just picked it up and started to read. The prologue was interesting, but didn't really set things up...at least at the time that's what I thought. Once Eragon's family was killed and he started chasing after the Ra'zoc with Brom and Saphira, that's when the story really picked up IMO. I like to actually see the training of the heroes, instead of them just appearing and having all these amazing abilities. Helps you connect with the character. I did get a little suspicious of Brom, but only about how he knew all these things. After he started teaching magic to Eragon, I was sure that he was a Rider, and when the glyph appeared on his wrist before he died, I felt enthusiastic that I had actually guessed right (which NEVER happens with Harry Potter). I felt immediately sad at Brom's death and immediately suspicious of Murtagh. Here's a guy who just HAPPENS to appear right when Brom is near death? Sounds awfully suspicious of me. But, considering that he saves Eragon so many times, I finally grew to trust him. The final battle was beautifully well-written, and definitely felt like a final battle after all the buildup to it. I haven't read Eldest yet, except for the first chapter which was included in Eragon. Ajihad's death saddened me . I haven't read Eldest yet, but based on Eragon, I'm excited. Once it comes out on paperback, I'll get it. Cheaper that way, and smaller.
I give Eragon a 5...out of 5.
