I thought it was very bad. Although I'm biased because I've read the book (I've yet to hear a reader of the book say they liked the movie), I also thought it was bad for purely cinematic reasons. Try not to cry with displeasure when A) Galbatorix unleashes his "Awful Acting" spell on you. or B)Saphira undergoes rapid aging, which was unneeded. A montage would have worked just as well, or better...

I have heard about the "I can't survive without my stone" line. Creepy... I also heard they took out the dwarves, please tell me that is not true.

They never say there aren't dwarves... they just never say there are.

Yep. Edit: Although I don't often search movies on the web, I've taken to doing it ever since my Film Lit. Teacher advised it. I love reading through the Rotten Tomatoes page for this movie(13%!); my favorite quote is, "Been to that galaxy, done that ring. Simple and Sweet, eh? I fear that the movie will ultimately cause people to doubt the book, as well, which I felt to be well written.

Well there were a bunch of little kids behind me who I assumed hadn't read the book going "That was awesomeeeee!!!!11!!" It wasn't even that it wasn't true to the book, it was just really bad movie-making.

I'm going to see it on Christmas Eve.
From what seems to be the general feeling, I may not live to see Christmas. I may gag on my own vomit instead.
EDIT'd!: OMG, that movie sucked on so many levels.

Wow. Old thread.
I finished Eragon again recently, and man, I'd forgotten how good it was! I remembered the main things but had forgotten a lot. I then saw the movie. Wow. I don't even know if that was a movie. There didn't seem to be a clear plot, and they butchered the book so much. Thank goodness it doesn't stick in my mind. I am so bringing that movie to Gamestop next weekend and redeeming it for money. I tried watching bonus features, but I couldn't stomach it, which is rare for me. The only redeemable thing was that Zar'rock looked great and Durza finally looked like a Shade in the last third of the "film."
Eldest, however. Now THAT was good. Spoilers:
Now, I'll admit, the whole "Luke I am your father" moment at the end was derivative, but honestly, it's so hard to be completely original. Harry Potter was one of the lucky book series nowadays to be pretty much their own thing. I liked the whole training thing that he did, although now that he looks like an elf I'm imagining Eragon looking like Link. Actually, when I think of Eragon looking like an elf, I think of Link, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Overally I really enjoyed the book, and I might actually pick up Brisinger when it comes out later this year in I think September instead of waiting for it to come out on paperback like I did with Eragon and Eldest.
So, yeah, if you're a Harry Potter fan looking for something else to read, check out the Inheritance Cycle.

So, like, whoa. News.
So, the third book has a title now. It's called Brinsigr, and comes out on September 20th. But the big thing now is that there is going to be a new, fourth book coming out sometime afterward. Apparently, the whole affair got so longwinded that Paolini decided to split the book. Even so, Brinsigr is going to be longer than either of the other two books.
Also, in the book, Eragon will meet one of Alagaësian deities, and perhaps shed some light on the Alagaësian pantheon.
Who still cares about this other than me and possibly Anakin? Anyone? XD

Over here! I can't believe there's going to be a fourth book, either. I can't wait! I'm also glad to know what the 3rd book is called. I hope I see it in my school's library!

I cares! I got Eragon for Christmas like three years ago, then my brother gave it to someone for their birthday without asking me. Grr.
Great series, though.

Eh, not really stinko. Fact is, Eldest left a ton of questions, and I was already having trouble believing that he'd finish everything in one book. I mean, it took J.K. Rowling seven!
I'm actually going to not wait for the paperback for this one like I did for Eldest and get Brisinger when it comes out in hardback. Now that HP is done, I can justify it.
