I was going to start an Aggie Footbal thread, but I doubt anyone else would care about it, so we have College Football instead! Talk about your favorite teams, rivalries, recruiting, or anything else College Football related! (Within the rules, but of course...)
My favorite college team is the Fightin' Aggies of Texas A&M! I look forward to another great season next semester! I'm hopin' that we beat t.u. this year, which would be a great accomplishment.

I'm looking forward to watching Michigan play this year... with their young players a year older and a year better, and another great freshman running back (Kevin Grady, who played high school ball about 10 minutes from where I live), things are looking great for the Wolverines this upcoming season. What do you guys think about the BCS? I personally think it could be better described without the 'C' in there. Whoever has the power to do so needs to get rid of it, and replace it with an 8 team playoff system. GO BLUE!

Auburn got cheated... again (3 times in 11 years now).

i agree that there should a a playoffs. gt rid of the BCS!!! having USC vs. OU for the title is like putting Miami vs. Phoenix in the Finals with no playoff just because some people think that would make the best series. i think Auburn should've had a shot at it - they had a great season, too!!

Having an 8 team playoff would be lovely, however, it would really be difficult given the fact that this is only a college sport. The people who play are supposed to be students as well as atheletes, and it would be very difficult for any players to be successful in the beginning of their second semester with playoffs going on. Just my two cents...

That doesn't really stop the NCAA when it comes to basketball! The thing that I think would be causing the most problems with a whole tourney, would be the sites of the various games... an 8 team playoff would cut out a LOT of bowl games, and that would create a lot of unhappy people (due to the bowl season being run by the Almighty Dollar).

Ah, too bad a missed this thread earlier.
USC TROJANS, BABY! FIGHT ON!
'Nuff said.
Not. USC has the best offense in the game. Period. Their defense is somewhat lacking this year, but hey, I'm watching them kick Orgeon's butt right now, and Oregon is supposed to have one of the game's best offenses. So the Trojan defense may not be flashy, but they get the job done. And the offense is so overpowering that they practically don't need defense.
'Nuff said.

But there is a big difference between Basketball playoffs, which run in the middle of the second semester at most schools, and a football playoff, which would interfere with finals at the end of first semester AND either the beginning of the second term or J-term at schools who observe January as a separate term entirely, not to mention that many of the little known bowls like the Music City Bowl, which I attended in '00 (WVA won and broke their 7 game bowl losing streak that set the record in the NCAA for that category), would cease to exist as anything other than meaningless side games, if they continued at all. Moreover, unlike college basketball, football has only an 11 or 12 game season, and so many teams' years would be over by the second or third week, and others simply would have no chance because a C-USA team, for example, is never going to be able to fill their schedule with the FSUs and USCs of the world. At least with the current system, a team like Louisville has the ability to catch national attention and even to secure a larger bowl bid than would ordinarily be possible (although after this weekend, the Cards seem to be going from the penthouse to the outhouse).

That wouldn't be much of a change from the current bowl system, though... lose 2 games, and kiss any hope of a national championship goodbye. At least with some sort of playoff format, you could lose a game or two, and still be able to hold out some hope. If the NCAA were to adopt a football playoff, they'd need to do some serious thinking on how to structure it, with one of the big points being how to include schools from smaller confrences. Now, that would be no easy task at all... but it's still way better than the B CS (minus the C) system that is currently in place.

You may lose two and have no shot at the National Championship, but this change to a playoff system, particularly if it were small, could mean that losing two games could keep you out of the playoffs altogether.

Not that I enjoy reviving threads or anything, but does anybody have any thoughts on the college football world? Since the last post in this thread, quite a few things have happened. Texas beat Oklahoma for the first time in 5 years, Penn State and Alabama have reemerged as football powers, Florida vs. Georgia is coming up this weekend... my USC Tojans are still undefeated after a victory over the evil Fighting Irish in the game of the year (Yes!)...
I'd hate to see this thread die, because I'm a huge college football fan. Does aybody else have anything to say? ...anybody?

USC will lose a regular season game this year- mark my words. It'll happen to either UCLA or Cal.

I can't see USC losing a regular season game this year. The next 3 games are jokes. Washington State? Stanford? Fresno State? Cal might offer a challenge because they're the only team that has played well against USC two years in a row, but they've performed pretty pathetically this year so far. They're really close to dropping out of the top 25, and they lost to Oregon State for crying out loud! The only really tough game USC will have is against UCLA, not because the Bruins are that good, but because it's a rivalry. Rivalry games are practically impossible to predict, because strange things always happen. But if we to look at the numbers, UCLA's defense is gonna get shredded. It's a valid opinion, nonetheless. Lots of people think USC is overdue for a loss, but in the true spirit of the game, I have to side with my team.

If USC would ever decide to play a full 4 quarters of a game, they'd be unstoppable, and run the table no problem. But, they seem to enjoy the "Hey guys, let's only play half a game!" concept.
