PS3
« on: June 08, 2005, 06:52:41 pm »

I recently watched the nerd conference from E3 online, and I must say that this console is going to put absolutely EVERYTHING else to shame (Yes, even Xbox 360.)

Imagine a console that can render 12,000,000,000 leaves, and have an individual sound channel for each.

Absoutely everythign is rendered in real-time.  EHich means, nothing is pre0recorded.  Anythign that blows up or starts moving is being programmed as it's happening, yet they still manage to have perefct and seamless gameplay.

The physics will also blow you away. Water looks perfect, and one guy even took 2 virtual reality cups and started to pur water out of one and into the other.

I could go on and on about everythign th PS3 has to offer, but I'll let you brag about it.

Yes, but it will probably be pretty pricey... and I'm not quite sold on the controller yet...And graphics don't matter at all if the games aren't good..

Something tells me that they're going to find some way to bring the price down a bit more.  They'll just get blown out of the water if they don't.

I can say this, though- one way or another, I'll eventually get one, lol.

Just a little FYI:

- Sony has a history of vastly overestimating their system's power.
- A recent news article has said that the graphics chip for the PS3 isn't even completed yet. Everything graphics related you've seen or heard is likely (very, very likely) false. Especially that Killzone 2 video.

Amen.

And anybody who actualy takes any manufacturer's stats/claims at face value before it hits store shelves is a complete moron. It's better to wait until it's varified by a third-party source. (Nintendo Power and Game Distorter Informer don't count.) That said, the PS3 still could be the biggest, baddest system you've ever seen. I just wouldn't bet on it. Ever.

I can't wait for this system. If it's sold at a retail price of $499.99, including tax, I should have enough money by...mid-October. But, I've already got $100 saved up. Just gotta do it a couple steps at a time. Controller looks similar enough to the previous ones to not pose a big problem adjusting.

Also, and maybe I missed the reason for this, but do we need another PS3 thread? I mean, we've already got one. Unless that was strictly PS3 E3 info on what they gave us, and this thread is our opinion on it. If so, carry on.

Well, I wasn't trying to say they'll make a bad product. It's obvious they won't. The PS2 has been a big success, popularity-wise and (not so much, but still) tech-wise.

It's just the fact that they lied when they had nothing gameplay-related to show, and a Sony representative even said when asked that the pre-rendered Killzone 2 footage was actual gameplay.

And they lied about PS2's online service...

I am still curious about how it turns out, though...

True, but the E3 nerd conference showed off the amazing physics/graphics that were actually being played right off an existing PS3.  Somehow I doubt that they faked it, because then they'd be i na whole lotta hot water when it came out.

Let me just say that Homestar Gunner is the only one here using intelligence regarding the subject.  That being said, I refuse to believe the Killzone 2 and Devil May Cry 4 footage is actual gameplay footage.  The last thing we need in a first-person-shooter is a camera that rotates like a head.  Although I think it's cool, there is no need for it, and there is only two analog sticks, which means the rotaing is either scripted, or the whole-thing is pre-rendered.  Also, the controller sucks.

I'm not believing the killzone 2 video until I SEE a controller in the person's hand, playing it.

And not as in every movie where someone is playing a video game and randomly jamming every button (or the kind of situation from Charlie's Angel where two kids are playing Final Fantasy with two controllers in and both are going beserk on the buttons WHILE A SUMMON IS BEING CAST), but preferably as in someone competently playing it.

That was the funniest part in the whole movie. The rest...meh.

Also, has anyone seen the original "Oldman" graphics test for the PS2? Very fine quality graphics, but it was quality that wasn't reached until just recently, as we're nearing the end of the PS2's lifespan, in games like Metal Gear Solid 3. And even then, the graphics were still nothing like the Oldman test.
