The official "Unnoficial Wii Thread" of BHZ. Now with Sticky'd Action!

"Wii" (pronounced "We" or "Oui"), for those who don't know, is the official name for the next-gen current-gen nintendo console.

Here are some basic (and not so basic) facts about the system.

EDIT: last update: April 27th Wiidid everything. Updated some stuff to include the new name.
EDIT: Final update - Erased all my mumble jumbo and linked to the Wikipedia site on the Wii. It is more helpful.

The Revolution will be backwards compatible.

It will have online play.

Those are the only important facts I know.

I personally like the theroy of Gyroscopic conrtol. I don't fully understand it but i get enough to have a basc idea.
The textured buttons theroy is a little out there and it doesn't really appeal to me. Just not a good idea IMO.
The theroy of Nintendo going online for free is practically true, because Nintedo stated that it wouldn't go online until it figured a way for free online gameplay. Nintendo says they have. who wouldn't want free online play?
The pressure sensitive for buttons rumor i could not stand. I have tried using my thumbs on my ds but i either don't put enough pressure or too much. It wouldn't work out.

But none of these rumors are enough to "revolutionalize the gaming world". Nintendo must have something in store that is so secret, so mindblowing, so innotive that no one has ever even thought of it before.

Nintendo's Next-Gen system is codenamed "Revolution" for a reason, obviously. And the company has never named a system without it having something very directly to do with the title. I.E: N64 - 64 bits, Gamecube was in the shape of a cube, DS for Duel Screen... the list goes on and on. So it's safe to say that, considering Nintendo's track record, this system will actualy Revolutionise the industry. A claim like that has to have Microsoft, Sony and company shaking in their proverbial boots. What is so revolutionary is the question. Gyroscopic motion ditectors? Texture Simulating controller pads or gloves? That and more have all been speculated with little information to confirm it, so I'm willing to bet that there just speculation or a plant by Nintendo to distract (Though that is also speculation). I, along with millions of others, await eagerly for Nintendo to announce exactly how they plan to Revolutionise an industry that hasn't seen that kind of thing since the introduction of true 3D thanks to the N64, PS1, Dreamcast and others.

I think they might put in an advanced rumble system.

I think another reason the gamecube's codename was project dolphin, is because it was really good water effects. Just a thought.

- Revolution is the sixth home console from Nintendo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the fifth?  NES, SNES, N64, GC, and then Revolution?  Or am I skipping something here?  (I just remember people a while back saying how they should call it the "N5").

- Revolution is to be shown at this years E3 (Electonic Entertainment Expo) on May 17th-20th. Expect the announcement to be around the 16th-17th.

I'm not so sure if then Revolution will be shown this year, at least to the public.  All signs I've seen point to playable versions behind closed doors, and game footage for the rest of us.  I think this mainly has to do with the fact that they don't want the other companies to steal their "innovation."  If you could link me to a page where it states that it will indeed be shown to the public at this year's E3, I'd be happy to change my opinion.

On a different front, I'm very curious to see what Nintendo has up their sleeveson this one.  Hopefully it is truely something revolutionary, and not just a gimmick.  I have the faith, though; after all, these are the people that came up with both the joystick AND the rumble pack, so you have to give them credit in the innovative department.  (Also somewhat of a rumor - the innovation might has something to do with the in game camera; Just something I read a while back....)

Now, to me, that just doesn't seem all that "Revolutionary". But then, Nintendo is more than capable of delivering more than just 1 amazing invention to a system.

Yeah, I would put it in the "Console" category. It isn't exactly pocket sized.

Nintendo Revolution= the Re-evolution of video games.

No. Virtual Boy, like Nintendo DS, was a third system by Nintendo. It was comapred to the DS several times during speculations about it, it's not a main system. Especially because it was portable, it had a stand and ran on batteries.

I was thinking of Virtual Boy as the 3rd console but whatever. I'll change it.

It's true that a playable revoloution will likely not be shown at E3. It's too early for that. But the system will be unvealed. Unvealing it will probably do no harm at this point, for Sony and Microsoft won't have time to copy nintendo's plans this late in the game (espicially microsoft). The new consoles have, after all, been in developement for 4 years or so. I know where i can find where it says it will be unvealed but it will take some time. I'll post it here when i find it.

EDIT: Best i could find. Here ya go. WARNING: This link has some language. Veiw at your own risk. Way better example Here. Same warning as before.
