Hey has anyone noticed that some of the jokes on H*R, some kids might not get. Afterall, H*R is mainly targeted toward kids i guess.
EX:
"Step off blue lazer, get your hands off those diskets and fiscal reports"
"SB: I summon section 4 z to my chambers H*:Sustained!!"
See, does anyone think that if they made their jokes less "complicated" it would be funnier?

It's targeted toward young-adults, up to around 21-22.
I think it would not be as funny, because the jokes would be too simple for our tastes.

H*R isn't aimed at little kids; TBC have stated in many interviews that they're not trying to make it kid-only, just kid/work-safe. And I don't mind the "complicated" jokes, I doubt H*R would be even half as good as it is now if it only stuck to things that little childrens would understand.

I totally love how many of the jokes are a little bit 'older.' When I have to think to understand a joke, I love it. If they were to "dumb down" the humor, I wouldn't be nearly as big of a fan.

I get the feeling the Bros Chaps aren't targeting it towards any one audience. From the numerous interviews I've seen with them, it sounds they're pretty much doing whatever they darn well feel like. And it seems to work pretty well that way.
Kids like Homestar Runner because of the awesome animation and random humor. Adults like it for the same reason and because the Bros Chaps are awesome enough to throw in jokes that only their age group would understand. Obviously those are stereotypes, but they get my point across.

Homestar Runner is proof positive that you can have "mature comedy" without making it excessively violent, sexualized, profane, or disgusting. The trick is that the comedy is adult-oriented, but it's pitched at the level of children's entertainment. That's the key. Therefore, you get material that won't put off kids because there's very little offensive stuff, but the full extent of the jokes only works for older audiences. So you basically get it both ways. My attempts to turn my 2-year-old cousin onto Strong Bad were unsuccessful, but he sure laughed when Strong Bad smashed Bubs over the head with the golden record. But I digress.
And of course, since this isn't a network show or anything, the Chapman Bros. don't have any obligation to keep things sanitized for the kids. They just do it anyway out of their own convictions, which is commendable. Sure, they cross the line a few times ("How ya doin', Texas?"), but for the most part they do a great job of finding ways to be funny without being morally offensive.

BEH! I understand nearly every single joke on the show, have since I was 10. And even if someone doesn't understand a joke, it doesn't make it any less funny. I don't think TBC should dumb down the comedy to kid standard. That'd stink. Nearly every kid joke has been used to death. And they aren't all that funny to begin with. H*R isn't directly suited towards kids. Infact, I don't think most kids of the current time would care for H*R to begin with. I've tried various times to show H*R to my little brother, he doesn't really like it.

I know what you mean. I've showed a lot of my friends HSR, and they don't really care for it.

Yeah, that sucks. You show them one thing: "Oh, it's just a cartoon. It doesn't swear and there'e nothing sexual, so it must be for stupid little kids." People that say that can't be more wrong. It is for all ages. And yes, it doesn't swear, but so what? I like it better this way. I think there's jokes for every age range. Little kids will be entertained by the fact the can watch a cartoon whenever they want, Older kids will like all the random humor and pop culture references. Aults/ even older kids will like it for the random humor and nostalgia factor. Sure, there are going to be people that give it a chance and just don't like it, or understand it, but it's getting kinda mainstream now. (My Aunt knows about it somehow, my friend at come asks me if i've ever heard of it out of nowhere, I saw a kid approximatly 15 wearing a homsar shirt, and just today i saw a guy in his 30's wearing a star shirt, so it's catching on with all different ages. Which is a great thing.)

Matt: Yeah. It’s funny because when we’re [color=Red]MESSING around recording stuff, it’s hard to not make Strong Sad swear all the time. I’d do a little of it for you, but I have a sore throat right now. He’s the only voice I can’t do right now. So, the temptation is definitely there, but we probably wouldn’t do anything with it.
