I haven't seen a thread for this type of reading material yet, so...I figured I'd start one.

I'm not exactly huge on the graphic novel scene, but I enjoyed Alan Moore's Watchmen, and I'm currently reading The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller.

If anyone has read these or any other graphic-type novels, please, feel free to share your thoughts.

The only real graphic novel I've read was "The Dark Night Returns". I first read it because I was in my school's library bored, saw it, and thought "Hey, a Batman comic book,". Then I read it and was surprised at how serious and dark it was.

Nevertheless, I thought it rocked. The fight at the end was a big shocker too. I knew that a fight like the one in the end happed eventually in the Batman/DC comics universe, but I didn't think it'd happen like that.

I would have to agree with you. I just finished the book last night, and I was quite impressed. It's quite dark, and even though I am hardly an in-depth comic fan, I found myself enjoying the story very much. The climax is really neat, and, like you said, it's pretty gritty, and I don't think its subject matter is for everyone.
