BHZ Awards- MOST OFF TOPIC TOPIC!
« Reply #1 on: February 09, 2006, 06:40:28 am »

Hey everyone, how's it going? So like, one time, I was at the zoo, and this one hippo was dissin' me and was all "Mrrawwwgh..." and I was like "what'd you say about my mama?" and after a brief sword fight, the hippo was defeated, and I went to the snack shop and bought an Icee. It was blue. And yummy. So, I'm here to, as some of you may have guessed, present the winner for the "Furthest Off-Topic Thread" award. The nominees are...

"Hahaahhhahaa" by Brutalmouse,
"Bored?  Give Barbie A Makeover!" by potthole,
"C'mon, Kids! Let's Make it... Relevant!" by RClock,
"Horseback Riding" by Tapeleg,
and
"The Make Fun of Jack Thopson Thread" by Gir.

And the winner is...

Brutalmouse and "Hahaahhhahaa"! Congratulations, BM!

BHZ Awards- BEST FORUM GAME!
« Reply #3 on: February 11, 2006, 10:27:23 am »

Forum Games. They unleash the competetive spirit in even the best of us. They make us laugh, get mad, and if you're one of those 28-year nerd types who lives in their mom's basement, you might even cry if you lose. But without further ado, the nominees for the most exciting game of 2005 are....

Depressio for "Member Survivor: Redux"
DaBurninator and Two Time Stu for "Who Stole the Lappy?"
and Lufis A. McCormick for "The Bestest Present"

And the prize belongs to...

Depressio for "Member Survivor Redux"! The game that proved getting more H*R minor characters in a collage than another team does feel good.

Hi, I'm StinkomanK. You may remember me from  "Losing well before the merge in MSX," Or, "Saying the phrase 'I'm Cool' a lot." Well, I can't tell you how surprised I was wan Potthole asked me to do the introductions for Coolest sections. I mean, people usually just knock me unconscious and then take what they want.
Anyhow, I've been around BHZ for about 2 and 1/2 years now. I've seen many things in my time, but it's always a special event when new sections are added to the lineup. We've come a long way from when I started, when we had about 9 sections. (We had fewer before that, but I don't know specifics) Our lineup is now double that, with equal parts Homestar and off-topic, along with some Forum-type sections.
So, of all these available sections was the best? Well, it wasn't Site/Forum suggestions. In fact, that wasn't even nominated. The nominees were actually:

Fighting Growlbacks Bottomless Spirit Pit
Skills of an Artist
Bubs' Bookstand
Secrets
So Cool an Animation

And the winner was... (drum-roll) The Fighting Growlbacks Bottomless Spirit Pit! Go Growlbacks!  The FGBBSP has played host to both the silly and the serious, including the CGN threads, the Floating in Space thread, the Religion and Politics discussions, and the thread that led to the biggest Forum Moment of '05. But that's coming up next, so keep your pants on.
The FGBBSP was actually created by Brett, but as he has retired, the award will instead now be presented to the forum's ever-cool creator, BHZ.

-Biggest Forum Moment 2005-

Burning Horizon's H*R Fan Forum has been around for going on 3 years now, and has developed a very tight knit community made up of people from around the world. The Biggest Forum Moment event recognizes a single turn of events over the course of the past year that had the most profound effect on the member base as a whole. 2005 was an interesting year for the forum, from an enormous glitch to the implementation of some wacky Halloween themed eyes that wouldn't stop following you as you navigated around the forum. The nominees for best forum moment of 2005 are:

bhz for "The Big Glitch '05"
The Moderator Staff for "Ran 'The Man' Being Unmasked"
bhz for "Those Blasted Halloween Eyes"
bethskye and potthole for "The Changing of the Guard"
Brett and yello_dello for "The Off Topic Section"

And the winner is...

"The Changing of the Guard!"

Accepting this award will be potthole and bethskye.

The wonderful thing about online discussion forums, such as ours here, is that we all have the great chance to read the opinions of others, and use them to help shape our own.  Some people don’t have much to say, some people seem to have enough words to print their own encyclopedia.

Long posts don’t always mean bad, or boring posts.  In fact, the nominees for the Man of Many Words award have made some of the most thought provoking posts we’ve seen here on BHZ’s, regardless of length.

---

The nominees for Man of Many Words are:

RClock

Mr. Teatime

The Chort- Total Astros Fan!

Depressio

PokeHomsar

---

Drum roll please, everybody…

…And the winner, of the first annual Man of Many Words is…

Mr. Teatime!

Congrats!  I think I speak for many of us here when I say that your posts have always been a pleasure to read, and that every day I find myself surprised your fingers haven’t fallen off from all the typing you’ve done!

Since the dawn of time (ok, maybe not that long) Humans have been avoiding doing work and neglecting their personal health, in order to play video games. The art of gaming has become one of the most popular across the world, spanning hundreds of thousands of games of many different genres. One man has played them all, or at least a heck of a lot of them. Be it the Odyssye, Atari 1, Atari 2, Atari 3, Famicon, Commodor 64, Virtual Boy, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Pocket, Nintendo DS, Playstation, Playstation 2, XBox, XBox 360, Playstation Portable, Super Nintendo, PC, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, 3DO, Neo-Geo, Game Gear, or Odyssye 2, there's one person everyone on this forum can go to for how to beat that tricky level, boss, puzzle, or minigame.

The nominations are...

Alexisonfire...
Dustinmyles...
Lufis A. McCormick...
Homestar Hockey Fan 128...
and Snakewater...

And the winner is...

Alexisonfire!

Congratulations, sir, you are an icon to video-gamers everywhere. This award is happy end.

Perhaps one of the most difficult things about posting on an online forum, is showing emotions.  Web developers have lended us a handy tool to help with that- emoticons, or as we more often call them, “similes.”  Like all things in this world, it can sometimes be possible to take things a bit overboard.  The Smiley Award is to recognize the poster on this forum who seemed to use similes most often in their posts in 2005.  The nominees are:

Spleen Man

Guybrush Threepwood

Shadow Lord

MBD123

And the winner, of the first ever Smiley Award is…..

Spleen Man!  Congratulations!

Music can be a window to the soul.  Music is something that plays a big part on Homestar Runner, from the Trogdor theme song, to “The System Is Down.”  Members on this forum have always shown a strong taste in music, and this became very apparent with the formation of our music board.  Weather it’s listening to music or creating music of their own, these members have seemed to always be doing something with music, in one way or another.

The nominees for Forum DJ are…

===

o_O- His lyrical prowess is seen in quite literally every post he makes!

Regis- Creator of the famed “Music Stand,” this guy has some mad musical talents.

Homestar Gunner- Self proclaimed musical listening genious, as apparent by just passing the 10,000 mark on songs listened to on his iTunes.

Gir- Anybody who always has an avatar of his favorite band, HAS to be a true fan.

Lyrical Wondermind- Come on, folks, I think the name states it all.

And the winner, of the Forum DJ award is….

o_O!  Congrats!

An internet forum is based almost exclusively on a text-based medium. With that in mind, forums are an excellent place for people to flaunt their vocabularies and toss some fancy words around that have the rest of us scrambling for the nearest reference book. And that's all in the spirit of the Homestar Runner website, which contributes words to our collective consciousness, both real and made-up, on a weekly basis!

With that in mind, here's where we laud all of those lovely lords and ladies of logorrhoea, in this, the BHZ Award we like to call... The Human Dictionary.

Here are the nominees, is no particular alphabetical order:

==

bethskye, whose brobdignagian brainpan has a bounty of baroque, beautious, bombastic bon mots!

Mr. Teatime, meticulous, mellifluent master of machiavellian and often magniloqunt morphemes!

PokeHomsar, the punctilious and painstakingly persnickety paragon of proper pronounciation, with a penchant for polysyllabism!

Quenners, quixotic and querelously quotable!

And... uh... who's the last guy? Oh, it's me! I guess that's what I get for not checking my phone messages once in a while.

==

Well, I guess we've wasted enough time here. The envelope, please?

And the winner is...

Marisa Tomei!

Just kidding. The real and actual winner is... bethskye!

*applause*

And now I'd like to sing a little number...

Sorry for how some of the order got a bit messed up with the presentations... the "pre made" speeches that I had merged with this topic sort of wierd.   Undecided  Don't leave quite yet, though, guys!  There's one last special award to present... coming up in just a few minutes!   Wink

As most of us should know, earlier this year a cornerstone of this forum’s heritage came to an end.  After three years, Depressio’s Sadmails took their final curtain call.  The sheer impact of these e-mails, on the shaping of the forum, cannot be understated.

200 e-mails over a three year span, that works out to over one e-mail a week, for those three years straight.  And don’t forget the various side stories, toons, and other works that Depressio wrote during that span.  Needless to say, our Depressio was one busy, and devoted writer.

Without his Sadmails, there wouldn’t be a section on this forum.  That’s right, the E-mail Board owes its existence completely to Depressio’s Sadmails.  I think it is safe to say that Depressio’s Sadmails have helped numerous friendships to form on this forum as well.

After the great run these works had, I think it would be fitting for us all to take a moment and show Depressio our appreciation for the enjoyment he helped to bring to this forum through his writings.

It gives me great honor, and great pleasure to present Depressio with the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award, for his work with Depressio’s Sadmails.  Congrats buddy, you totally deserve this!

Here's the code for this banner, if anybody else would like to use it, to help honor our own Depressio:

Wow...I'm speechless here. Thanks so very much for this award...it's a huge honor and I am very grateful for it. Thanks to everyone who has supported me through sadmails, survivor, and whatever else I stumbled into over these past few years. Without all of your support, I would probably be curled up in a corner somewhere. These past 3 years on the board have been awesome...and I don't know of any other place I'd rather be.

Huge thanks to the mods and admins here for constantly having my back, and to everyone I talk to on AIM or through PM. You all know who you are, and I appreciate everyone's kindness so much.

Thanks again for this amazing award.
