Glance over the boards in the "Historic Over There" category; 8 forums, and 6 of them could be one board. There are six media-related forums there, and they could easily be collapsed into one, either with all of the current threads mashed into one forum, or one forum with child boards. Making the number of forums in that category 3, which is a lot easier to read, in my opinion. This could also draw less attention to the off-topic forums for new members and focus more on the H*R-related boards.

I agree completely on the suggestions regarding Historic Over There. Additionally, I don't think Thing In A Bag really has a purpose anymore. It's been pretty much innactive for about three months. The BHZ Awards could have been in Action Cool News. The animation and art sections could also be just one section together, or one with child boards, to further limit the number of forums on the main page.

I suggested this many months ago with slightly different wording. http://www.burninghorizon.com/hsrforum/index.php/topic,7127.0.htmlIt was sent to a poll, which was split evenly between consolidating the existing threads, or leaving it be. Former admin Brett showing true character... left it be. There were good points on either side. Perhaps members will be willing to revisit the issue.

Maybe I just have a big monitor, but I can get through all the topics, including the four mod only ones, in just two swift turns of my mouse scroller. The off-topic ones are the most popular, and combining them all would make shifting through topics considerably more confusing. I read the video game, movie and book forums, but if those were combined with the technology and sports forums it'd be more of a hassle to sift through which topics I read and don't want to read. And the way it looks now certainly strikes me as "cleaner" then having one topic with a half-dozen childboards under it. So I think right now is fine, better than the alternatives I can think of.

Overall, I'm with Teatime on this one, for the most part, I don't think there's too many forums. But, I could see there being some condensentation of things. I could maybe see merging Nerdular Nerdulance and Video Games together. I could also maybe see merging Skills of an Artist and So Cool an Animation together. But, other than that, I don't think it'd be all that good to merge things other ways, at least not the way I'm looking at them. Thing in a Bag, yeah, that's been dead for a long time. But, I don't really know what to do with it. I don't really want to just totally delete the board, along with all the threads in it. But, at the same time, it would be a major hassle to move all the old threads out of it, to new 'homes.' So, even though I personally don't see a huge need for merging stuff, don't let that kill discussion. Keep talking about it, and propose some ideas of different ways you think things could be merged, and I'll keep an eye on them, and who knows, we'll see what comes about.

I honestly think all the off-topic sections should be merged into one big board with child boards for the more popular subjects. For example, there could be the main board for whatever people want to talk about, a child board for CGN threads and name polls, a child board for video games, a child board for movies, and any subject not covered in the child boards could go in the main board. That way we could have all the most popular off-topic sections and have them take up less room. If anyone is confused over what I'm trying to say in terms of organizing the off-topic boards, here's the simplified version. MAIN OFF-TOPIC BOARD for discussion in stuff not covered in child boards. - CGN thread child board
- Video games child board
- Movies and TV child board

It's not too big of a deal for me. I guess my main point is similar to Teatime's. Yeah, we could merge them, since some are similar, but the only reason for doing that would to be to reduce the number of boards.
And if we went with child boards...there would still be the same number of links on the index...so, I don't know how that helps the argument that there's too many forums.
The Art + Animation merge makes sense, though. I don't have anything against that.
Either way, though, merged, or not merged, it's not that big of a deal, in my opinion.

It wouldn't have to have child boards for every single section we have now, just the ones that are the most active or can be merged into a larger category easily.

CGN... sub-board? That is wholly unnecessary, imo. I mean, we only have one CGN thread, right?
I say, if we do merge some boards, we go with a Media - Technology (Which would include games, maybe in a sub-board) - General scheme. It seems to work on a lot of other forums, and potluck is right, it probably would draw more attention to the H*R sections.
TIAB should stay. It's just where all the general H*R topics that don't belong anywhere else would go. It's handy to have around, and it's not taking up too much space as it is. Same goes for all the other H*R boards.

Yeah, I know. I just meant that if we were to merge boards, it would have the same effects as creating child boards.CGN... sub-board? That is wholly unnecessary, imo. I mean, we only have one CGN thread, right?
Well...we could throw the lyrics thread in there, too

The idea of a CGN child board is stupid, we only have one thread, and as far as I know, there's only one other thread that would apply to that.
My general idea is this: one media board, give it an H*R-related name, and put one or two child boards on it (video games, music, since those are the only two that are really popular anyway), and move everything else into the main board. Leave the Pit as it is, and that works fine.

It was only an example. It doesn't mean it has to be like that if that method is actually used. Yeah, I know. I just meant that if we were to merge boards, it would have the same effects as creating child boards. The main reason I support using child boards over merging boards into their own section is that it would take up less room on the board monitor. Same stuff, just takes up less room.

I see no reason to change much here. I could understand the Art and Animation merge, but other than that, it would get way confusing within the big superthread (Pangea ).

I like everything how it is. I feel there is no need to merge any boards. There perfect how they are already. It isn't confusing to sort through.
