Member Survivor 12 Signup Thread

Homstar. The Chort. Won the Powerball. crapfully_Yours. Fudley. Faded. Hammer. skinny_blonde_girl. potthole. What do these people have in common?

They have all won Member Survivor.

You could be next. (Or…uh…if you’re one of those people…you could win again)

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

I am not replacing Ivan as host for this game. Ivan will be hosting Member Survivor 13, which will occur in the summer. Rest assured I have discussed this matter with Ivan and we have both agreed that I will host this game and that he will host the next.

As is the routine with most Member Survivors, I will post the rules for those interested. Please read BOTH POSTS

SECTION ONE: Skills and habits that each applicant must possess

#1: Activity. Survivor will require A LOT of active time on the forum. Like, every day time. So unless you can make it for between 1 and 3 hours a night, this might not be your game. ONLY SIGN UP FOR THE GAME IF YOU PLAN ON SHOWING UP FOR THE NIGHTLY CHALLENGES. If you are playing the game and miss a whole bunch of challenges, your team will probably vote you out. However, you shouldn’t be sacrificing or compromising any of your other commitments to play in this game. I will address this later. So, to recap, be sure you have the willingness to participate in this game.

ADDITIONAL BOLD WARNING - In the early stages of the game, challenges will DEPEND on many members of the tribe being on at the same time, so be sure that you are on a lot, especially in the first few days of the game. Also, if you have a habit of getting grounded/having your computer revoked, you might want to think about not playing the game. You need to be willing to participate in this game to its full extent.

#2: Sensibility. As any past contestant tells you, Survivor is a game that can sometimes incorporate deceitful traits. This is not a game that is designed to break friendships or anything, but if you are easily offended by being betrayed, or the type of person who holds a grudge, this is not the game for you. Also, if you are not good at working with others, then this definitely isn't the game for you. You will need to formulate strategy and apply your people skills to win this game.

#3: Respect. To be a contestant in the game, you have to demonstrate a mature and respectful attitude towards the host, co-host, administration and staff of bhz, and each of your fellow contestants. Rude or childish behavior will NOT be tolerated, and will be reported to Forum Admin immediately. Member Survivor is NOT THE PLACE FOR SPAMMING, INSULTING, OR DEMEANING ANYONE.

SECTION TWO: Who can play?

Anyone with an interest in the game is free to apply. Likewise, a Member Survivor veteran is free to enter aswell. However, ALL CONTESTANTS must follow the application rules laid out below. Before I continue on, I should call attention to the fact that some of you might have no idea what this game is but are still interested in playing. And I know that a newcomer is just as capable of winning the game as anyone else (potthole, winner of Member Survivor Redux, was a first-time player).

SECTION THREE: Applying to Member Survivor 12

#1: Once again, anyone on the forum is welcome to apply. There are no restrictions on newcomers, nor on mods/admins.

#2: When applying to Member Survivor: 12, you must complete the REALLY BIG SURVIVOR FORM found below. This WILL be documented/saved by me and sent to admin if a violation occurs.

#3: Before you send in your PM, you must include PEER REFERENCES from TWO other forum members. These should be about two lines, preferably directly quoted, from TWO different members, detailing why THEY think you would be a good contestant on Survivor. Their statements should hint at the following:

a) How active you are on the forum
b) How kind/helpful you are to other members
c) Any past history or involvement in forum games, events, etc.

DON'T SPAM THE CGN THREAD, MEMBERS, MODS, OR ADMIN LOOKING FOR REFERENCES. FORUM STAFF WILL BE NOTIFIED IF YOU START BOTHERING PEOPLE INCESSANTLY

#4: I want to hear what YOU have to say about yourself. In a paragraph or so, talk about how you display the Survivor skills and habits (Activity, Sensibility, and Respect) that I mentioned above. Why do you think YOU would be a good contestant?

#5: Additionally, I am going to need ANOTHER paragraph from you. This is about the issue of the time Survivor takes to play. IN THIS PARAGRAPH, I WANT YOU TO GIVE ME TWO OR THREE LINES IN WHICH YOU LET ME KNOW THAT YOU ARE POSITIVE THAT YOU HAVE THE TIME IT TAKES TO COMMIT TO SURVIVOR FOR THE NEXT NEARLY 3 WEEKS. CONSULT A PARENT/GUARDIAN IF NEED BE. I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO BE SURE THEY HAVE THE TIME TO PLAY THIS GAME. IF YOU HAVE ANY SORT OF COMMITMENT TO SCHOOL, FAMILY, OR FRIENDS, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME AT ALL. NO ONE'S GRADES OR SOCIAL LIFE SHOULD SUFFER FOR THIS GAME AT ALL! THAT IS WHY YOU MUST SEND ME TWO OR THREE LINES GUARANTEEING ME THAT YOU HAVE THE TIME FOR THE GAME, AND THAT YOU WILL NOT HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE TIME SPENT ON THIS GAME. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, SO, PLEASE, THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE APPLYING!!!

To recap…
Your application PM will include:
1) The REALLY BIG AND IMPORTANT MEMBER SURVIVOR FORM, all filled out.
2) Your two PEER REFERENCES.
3) Your first PARAGRAPH on why you think you would be a good Survivor.
4) Your second PARAGRAPH guaranteeing me that you are 100% SURE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GAME WITHOUT ANY CONSEQUENCE TO YOUR GRADES/FAMILY LIFE/SOCIAL LIFE

This system applies to EVERYONE. Even if you have been in every Survivor since #1, I still want some references from others that show how committed you are to the forum/game. Those who you quote should be available to be reached if need be.

If more than sixteen people apply to the game, which is a likely possibility, a selection process will begin. I, along with co-host/aspiring librarian Mr. Teatime will go through every audition and choose sixteen people. The selection will be based on many things, including the quality of your references. PEOPLE WILL NOT BE SELECTED BASED ON FORUM REPUTATION ALONE. HOWEVER, if you have a history of being abusive to other members/violating the rules, that will be noted. The roster will be passed around to some of the mods if need be, and if they find an outstanding problem with one of the contestants, they will surely let me know.

Note that Depressio and Mr. Teatime will NOT provide any referencing to any contestant.
Also, PLEASE NOTE that I DO NO NOT WANT ANYONE whining to myself, forum mods, admins if you do not make it into the game, NOR do I want to see any whining in the CGN threads if you do not get into the game. This will be counted as abusive behavior, and will be reported to forum staff. I am NOT try to exclude anyone, as almost every past contestants can confirm. Please understand that BOTH MR. TEATIME AND MYSELF will spend plenty of time examining the applicants and will do our best to choose in the event that we have to.

This is mostly common sense, but the references MUST COME FROM TWO DIFFERENT SOURCES. However, ANY FORUM MEMBER IS WELCOME TO GIVE REFERENCES TO AS MANY CONTESTANTS AS THEY WANT. If you are part of a large group who all want to play the game, feel free to write recommendations for each other.

SECTION FOUR: General Information and Helpful Tips

Some of you might be thinking “hey, this sounds kinda fun but I’m never going to get the hang of it!” Well, I am going to try and settle those concerns with the Survivor guidelines and rules. With these handy/dandy references, even the newbiest newb will understand the basics of the game.

Member Survivor terms, concepts, and ideas: Check this out for the basic info. If you have never played before, this should be your first stop. This thread will give you an idea of what some of the terms spouted off in the game are, such as Tribal Council, Immunity, etc.

How to Win Member Survivor: Handy Guides: Longtime co-host, player, and know-it-all, fun_timey, and two-time Member Survivor winner and altogether cool guy, The Chort, have each prepared a guide on how think an aspiring Survivor champion should play the game. I highly recommend browsing these for ideas for strategy and the like. Check them out. No seriously, check them out.

By reading both of those threads, you should be almost there for Survivor know-how.

ADDITIONALLY, please be sure that you have AOL INSTANT MESSENGER for this game. I haven’t made a point of saying this in this thread before, but the game has evolved to a point where you basically need this to keep in touch with your tribe mates.

ALSO, be SURE you have an account on a file-hosting site, such as Photobucket. Many challenges involve taking screenshots or making your own pictures, so be sure you have a way of uploading them. If you’re unsure of what any of this means

Just for clarification purposes, nightly challenges will take place from 8:00 PM EST to 9:00 PM EST. If your team is the one going to tribal council, your votes will be due by 10:00 PM EST.

Last but not least, Member Survivor: Redux winner potthole was kind enough to provide some insight into the game.

I got to know other forum members quite a bit better through this game, and that was even better than playing the game. SECTION FIVE: What makes this Member Survivor so special?

I’m glad you asked. I don’t want to give anything away, but I can reveal three things as of now.

#1) Some of the toughest challenges yet. I have worked to provide new and exciting challenges for the contestants that will keep the competition fierce. This new batch is arguably the most challenging in all of Member Survivor.
#2) Some of the biggest twists in Member Survivor history. This is a pretty bold statement, but I think I can stand by it.
#3) Right off the bat, contestants will be divided up in a way never before seen in Member Survivor.

Let’s hope that was good enough hype.

OK. Just a review of what you need:

#1: TWO references from TWO DIFFERENT members of the forum. Remember to keep these short, but informative. I want to see proof from other members that you are a committed member of the forum.

#2: The form above, completed completely.

#3: A paragraph about why you believe you deserve an Member Survivor 12 slot.

#4: A second paragraph clarifying that you have the time to play Member Survivor without interfering with your academic, social, employment, or family commitments.

Remember, everyone has until 12:00 AM on SATURDAY, MARCH 25TH 2006 to submit everything to BOTH DEPRESSIO AND MR. TEATIME. Best wishes to all aspiring contestants.
