P.S. It's now quite risky to bash 24, as there a good number of 24 fans, of which I think everyone would agree I am chief, with Teatime perhaps being right behind. Is that fairly safe to say, guys?
Well, I guess I'm just a risky fellow. 24 maybe a show raved by critics, but FOX advertises House, M.D. as the BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION. They actually say that in their commercials. FOX likes House, M.D. more, so there. I think critics like House, M.D. more, too. Also, I just can't see how that many exciting things can happen to a guy in a day. I mean, just from the commercials and the general premise, he's trying to get out of a locked up building filling with poisonous gas one hour and saving his kidnapped daughter in the next. It just defies common sense. At least in House, M.D., Dr. House is saving people from real-life illnesses in real time, which is generally a day to a week per main patient per epsiode. 24 is just too freakin' unrealistic for a drama. Also, too many things happen in a season. That is precisely why I don't like it. Also, Hugh Laurie should have won the Emmy for the first season of House, M.D., for it was an AWEXOME season. He should have won just for the fact that he can do that American accent so well, but use his normal voice everywhere else, if not for his great scenes in the clinic. Who won that year anyway? Also, I was mainly calling them stupid for winning the awards that year instead of Hugh Laurie and House, M.D.. -1 for the -1

It shocked me that the actor who plays House has a british accent. That takes a lot of talent to make a convincing accent. -1 for the -1

House and 24 both have strong points. It's kinda hard to compare the two because they're entirely different shows. Neither are really just a "drama," in my opinion, even though that's the label. House is way more sarcastic and funny than 24. Chloe is really the only part of 24 which is funny. 24 has the crazy action and intense moments, many of which are totally unrealistic. House's episodes are much more loosely connected than 24's, obviously. (However, the last few House shows have all been about his drug use/trial/rehab storyline.) House doesn't have the "if I miss this one, I'll be lost next week" effect. [By the way, LOST is awesome, too] 24's got all the weird twists in the story, also. Etc, etc. I could probably go on longer, but I think i've made my point.

I could care less about a -1, first of all.
I never said House wasn't a good show; I simply said I think 24 is much better because it hooks you in. Besides, if everthing was realistic, it'd be life. The writers of shows put their characters into situations not really encountered in every day life. At least some part of every episode of every TV show (including reality TV) is not realistic. That's what get viewers: to see people in different circumstances and just imagine what'd they do in their shoes.
I will say Hugh Laurie is a great actor that can pull off that accent amazingly well.
Also, FOX has also claimed 24 is the best show on television. You can't rely on what FOX says in commercials to judge which show they think is their best. I do think there's a little bit more evidence for 24, just due to the scheduling for it, but you really can't say that for certain, as they have not only 24 and House, but another huge show: American Idol. So, to claim FOX has actually stated their #1 show is very risky and quite honestly wrong to say, when they've said that about other shows. The only network to have ever claimed their show is the best is CBS with CSI, and they actually had legitimate reasons: CSI was the #1 show in America, and I believe is still in the top 5.

Yes, House is sometimes unrealalistic, as the diseases on the show are rare, but House's staff division specialize on rare diseases. As you can tell by watching, they only get one rare patient disease a week (or so.) But, 24 goes through 24 unrealalistic plots in one in-show day. It's not that it's unrealalistic, it's just that it's 24 times in one in-show day. Every episode is unrealalistic, mostly. Most of the plots, as I've heard, are also unrelated, so they're also unrelated unrealalistic things. At least with House, the unrealalistic-ness is always about diseases and how they're treated. You also can learn more by watching House. House may even push me into becoming a doctor. The show is educational and entertaining. You can't really say 24 is the former, but it may be the latter to you, but that's your opinion. I like certain shows, not only because they're entertaining, but they make you think. I like Family Guy, Seinfeld, and Friends because they reference things I like, make me think about what they may be referencing, they're about everyday life (at least the two latter and sometimes, the former,) they make me laugh, and the characters are sometimes in situations that have happened to me. You can't say 24 has situations that you've ever been in, can you? I like House, M.D. and Columbo because they make me think how they'll figure out the disease/how to incriminate the murderer, they have great plots and rememberable characters with the best catchphrases ("Just one more thing.." and "I have to die up all the lose ends.",) and how the main character is either sarcastic and mean to the patients or disarming to the murderer but always figures out the puzzle in the end. 24 just really doesn't appeal to me, and that's my opinion. I explained my opinion and that's that. Take it as it is.

as I've heard I now subtract five points from the value of your opinion, because you are judging things on hearsay/without having firsthand experience.

Um, I just haven't watched that many episodes and mainly just see the commercials for the next episode when I watch House, M.D.. The show is unrealistic to an extreme, which is a valid arguement almost anybody who dislikes the show will agree with. Also, I have read many of the synopsi (or whatever the plural of synopsis is) for 24 and saw them to be extremely unrealistic. The show doesn't interest me, and that's that. I'm sorry if I enjoy House more, mainly because of the science and the medicine the show shows. I learn from the show, but I also really enjoy House's sarcastic and doesn't-give-a-crap nature.
Now, back on track.
Good Housism: Wilson (to House about his rehab)-You've been taking Vicadin this whole time? House (about the guy who brings him medicine in rehab)-How dare he risk his minimum wage job?

Some of the plots aren't really that connected, such as season 3 with the whole Ann situation and then later with the Alan Milliken situation. That in itself was basically just filler, and it would at best cause a distraction for the President from concentrating on the crisis. However, Season 4 and 5 really stopped that and had every plot thread connected, and they got even more connected as the season went on. That is a valid criticism for Days 1-3; however, past 3, it really isn't.
And, it's not separate threads per episode either. It's continuing from the previous episode and flows into the next episode. The story just develops with each episode; you really don't get a new one.
Ultimately, for me, if I can get hooked into it from the story or the characters, I'll keep watching it, no matter what others say.
There. My two cents and semi-hijacking of this thread to a House vs 24 thread is over. We now return you to you regularly scheduled thread.

New episode tonight, everyone.
This is my favorite show on FOX, but the extended breaks between episodes is getting sort of annoying. But I did read in an interview with Hugh Laurie that the show has a very demanding recording schedule.

aRE YOU READY TO BE TROLLLLLED,

Season premier tomorrow.
I am SO EXCITED.
Anakin, I hate to break your heart like this (I never noticed that argument before, as I only recently became a House addict), but House has become, by far, my favorite show on television. Don't get me wrong, I still hold a soft spot in my heart for 24, but overall I'm more of a witty-sarcasm kind of guy than a run-around-shooting-things kinda guy. Though some of Pokehomsar's arguments...just make my head hurt...

I can see that. That's why I liked Gilmore Girls and why I like Grey's, because they had witty humor like that while still having drama. It doesn't matter to me if it's not your favorite drama, as long as you enjoy it. Plus, I believe House had a better past season than 24 did. I still have hope for 24, of course, considering what they did with Season 5 (which I'm currently going through again).

Gilmore Girls? You're kind of not the right sex for that. My fiance has made me sit down to watch a couple of episodes of that- I cannot stand the dialog. It comes spewing from mouths at machine gun pace. It's just not realistic.
As for House, that's one of the shows I really wish I had time to watch. Once school is over and done with for good, I hope to get back into it once more.

I really liked tonight's episode. I was really disillusioned with the show towards the end of its last season, but this episode completely renewed my interest.
