Pretty much the best announcement they could have made. Robin and Lucina were the two FE:A characters I wanted the most (that had a shot of making it at least. Sorry Panne, Tharja, Noire, Brady, Kjelle, *continues to list rest of cast*), but I never thought there would be four Fire Emblem characters in the game.

Lucina is a clone, but that's okay. She's probably the best character you could have asked for to have a clone. I kind of would have preferred she was a female swap of Marth, as I don't really think the gameplay differences between the two are significant enough, but I'm glad she's playable in some form.

Robin is interesting and I can only speculate as to how she plays. She has access to all four schools of magic from the FE:A (Thunder, Fire, Wind, and Dark) as well as access to four levels of each spell (Thunder, Elthunder, Arcthunder, and Thoron are used in trailer) and her tomes degrade after use. How she goes from one tome to the next is a mystery though. Does she change tomes when she loses a stock and only have a limited amount of uses per life? Do you have to mainly pull out a new one when you run out, sort of like Platinum The Trinity in Blazblue? Do they just regenerate over time after you've used one up? Do they act as an item like turnips or banana peels? Is it random which one you get or does it follow a set order? Hell, do you pick them at the start of battle and are stuck with one for the entire fight? As for the different levels of magic, are they tied to different moves, tied to how much you charge the ability (like Samus's Charge Beam), or follow a set pattern (ex. 3 uses of thunder then 2 uses of elthunder then 1 use of arcthunder then 1 thoron and then book is used up). There's a lot to process about her playstyle, but I think the idea of a sword fighter with a solid mid range projectile game is an awesome idea for a character.

Captain Falcon looks like a total badass in that trailer. Happy he's back, but only someone as cynical as Depressio thought he wouldn't be.

Where the heck is Ness? Seriously, where? He's now the only (?) original Smash character left not announced yet. There's not a chance he'll get left out, is there?

They still haven't announced Jigglypuff either. I'm hoping it isn't in this game.  Smile like you got gold all up in yo grill son!
As for Ness, I'm sure he'll be there soon. They just released Earthbound on the Wii U Virtual Console, so it shouldn't be too long. I really want Lucas to come back though! I'm about halfway through Mother 3 and now I appreciate him more. Maybe he'll appear someday...

Ness was one of the last characters announced in Brawl. Calm your junk. He (or maybe just Lucas) will be announced eventually. Along with the Jiggs.

So thanks to some Famitsu scans, we know that Robin's playstyle isn't as badass as I wanted it to be. Basically, Neutral B acts as a charge move like Samus's Charge Beam that goes through Thunder, Elthunder, Arcthunder, and Thoron, which go from small little electric attack to giant electric beam. Side B is Arcfire, which leaves a fire burning where it hits (like Ness's side B). Down B is Nosferatu, which curses the opponent to give health to Robin whenever that opponent is hurt temporarily. Also, Nosferatu does more damage when it strikes from behind. Up B is Elwind is a recovery move that shoots two projectiles down. All of these can't be used temporarily when your tome expires, but you automatically switch tome types when you use a different attack.

I still have no idea what this attack is. Might be a different version of one of the other attacks (remember every character has 3 versions of each special they can choose from).

The fake (?) rosters are appearing.

Can you spot the reasons why this is possibly bogus?

This roster would add Wario, Game & Watch, Ness, Jigglypuff, ROB, Ganondorf, Falco, Dr. Mario, Shulk, Bowser Jr., Dark Pit, and Duck Hunt Dog to the roster. Leak also claims that Snake, Ice Climbers, Wolf, Lucas, and Rhythm Heaven Chorus Men as DLC after release, though does not say if it's paid DLC or free DLC that'll be out between the 3DS and Wii U launch.

That's 12 characters added to the base game and 5 DLC characters. So a total 49 and 54 after DLC versus the 39 in Brawl (if you count transformations and Pokemon Trainer as 3 different characters).

My impressions?

Good roster number. Wario, Ness, Lucas, Snake, Ice Climbers, and Ganondorf are great returning characters. Shulk would be a great addition to the roster. Duck Hunt Dog and Chorus Men would be completely bonkers and therefore welcomed. Dark Pit, Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario, Rob, and Wolf are all terrible choices. Mr. Game & Watch and Falco are... who the hell cares?

54 is an excellent roster number, but it would mean that 37 of the 39 characters in Brawl would be returning (Poor Ivysaur and Squirtle) with a Melee veteran coming back too (so, in total, only 6 characters not returning from the three previous rosters). Still, that's 16 new characters in the roster. Considering we're already guaranteed Lucina, Robin, Palutena, Lil Mac, Villager, and Mega Man, who were all pretty much my dream additions to the roster, I can't really complain about the overall new characters added.

Still, if you're ending with 54, I would much prefer they cut loose, say, Lucas, Wolf, Dr. Mario, Rob, Falco, and Game & Watch and added new characters instead. Like Ridley. Or Birdo. Or Sami. Or Bayonetta. Or Jill. Or Kachi.

Not quite as amusing a reaction to a leak as the classic Rock Band leak reaction.
