So guys, use this thread to show us some of your favorite indie games. Plasma PongAn amazing update to the original. I absolutely love this game. Grid WarsA very good clone of geometry wars. Some feel it is superior. I love this game as well, super addicting! By a bizarre coincidence, the graphics of these games resemble the kind of music that I listen to. Whowouldathunkit?

Two words: Cave Story. This game is amazing, and is really the only game to suceed in the Metrovania style of games other than Metroid and Castlevania. I have not been able to download it yet, but my cousin and I played it extensively at his house when I was there last. It is nothing short of amazing.

What defines a game as "indie?"
Technically, indie games are games made by Developers without oodles of money coming from publishers, such as Nintendo, Take-Two, EA, or Square-Enix. What usually happens is that the publishers also own developers, and then entire production is down in the same company. There are some companies, however, who do not use the route of the publishers to make their games available. It is very rare for online games, such as Cave Story, the new Sam & Max episodic games, or Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, not to be indie, as they are developed and given to the customer without anyone distributing the game, editing the game, or paying the bills. Indie games are very rare on consoles and usually aren't shipped to enough locations to sell very well or recieve much recogniction. The only company that really comes to mind when I think of that is an indie console game company is Nippon Ichi (which I have mentioned numerous times before), which distributes all of their games throughout Japan. They do, however, use publishers in the other regions (such as Atlus for North America) for translation and distribution purposes. My cousin (the same one who introduced me to Cave Story) is an indie game developer. He doesn't make web games like flash or anything, but downloadable ones like Cave Story. He is actually quite talented for someone of his age (he's a year and a half younger than me), doing all of the programming, sound development, and drawing all the sprites and animations by hand. Alas, he has not been able to get one of his games out on the internet just yet, as he usually encounters a fatal flaw in his games that has him ending production. Although, if he does complete his current project (something that seems inevitable at this stage), I will post it. Alex has just posted for me.
Listen to this man. He is on it.

Glad to see everyone enjoying Cave Story.

Dude, where did I read about this? EDIT: Ah... It was the newest Retronauts podcast. The one completely about Chrono Trigger. I was just talking about this game with my cousin, but completely forgot the title until now. I will download it when I have the time. EDIT: I finally beat the first boss (Mike Tyson). Man this is a hard game. I think I died about a hundred times on Mike alone! I cannot imagine trying to beat this on anything other than the easiest mode (a lot more save points). Now, I'm trying to get past the moon. Incredibly difficult. EDIT 2: This game's music is beyond amazing and I didn't know where it had came from until yesterday. Most of the songs are taken from Guilty Gear Isuka, including the awesome guitar song that plays when you die.
