I still find it hilarious that people always claim that the Yankees are doing well, when in reality they haven't done well since 1999.  Those darn New Yorkers...

By most standards they actually have done pretty well since 1999.  Just not by New York Yankee standards.  Sure, they haven't done well in the playoffs and World Series, but they've managed winning records and have actually made the playoffs... something most teams consider to be a very good season.

 Grin

That's my face every time I look at the AL East standings, or hear about another Yankee loss.

Sorry, but after years of watching them pound my Tigers, I can't help but become giddy at seeing them struggle.

Wow! It's May, and I haven't posted in this thread yet?

Well, I'll have to agree with Potthole: I love seeing the Yankees showing their scars!

But, my team, the Reds, have plenty of scars...Sad I wouldn't have thought that they'd be near last...

My pick for the world series this year? I'd have to say the Brewers.

The Red Sox are going to win it all this year.

And that's not just because my dad raised me to think Yankee was a swear.

Yeah, the Sox seem unstoppable so far, even with the Yankees starting to warm up.

But, that's the beauty of the baseball season. There's 162 games, so you never know what might happen....

So, despite all logical reasons to believe otherwise, I still think the Stros have what it takes to win the Wild Card. We'll see how the second half plays out.

In other news, my favorite player of all time, Craig Biggio, just passed 3,000 hits. Boo-yeah.

While I respect the Astros organization, and Craig Biggio, who will definitely be a first-ballot hall-of-famer, I think they have too much work to do, and too many good teams to overtake.

The wild card winner will most likely be from the NL West. The Padres and Dodgers will be neck-and-neck all season, and you can't count out the Diamondbacks, who have great talent, even without Randy Johnson.

But, all I can say is, I'm excited for the All Star Game! And I'm sad that my Reds have the worst record in the league....

Oh well, here's to a good season!

If the NL Central winds up being like it was last season, the 'Stros have a shot still.  It seemed that no team wanted to win that division last year.

Granted, I've been too wrapped up in following the Tigers to pay much attention to how things are playing out in that division this year, but going off of history from the past couple of seasons, it's never too late to count out a team from the NL Central.

You got me there. The Cards stumbled into the playoffs. I remember how stunned I was seeing them in Series, and then (sorry, potthole) winning it all.

BUT, last year, through 83 games, the Astros were 41-42 (.488) and 4.0 games back. This year, through 83 games, the Astros are an abysmal 36-47 (.434) and 12.5 games back.

Oh, no offense taken to the comment about the Cards.  I still feel that Detroit was the better team overall, they just happened to play a week of really crappy ball.  Happens to all teams.  It just happened to occur during the most important week of games of the season.  Oh well, that's over and done.

I'm sure the loss of Andy Pettite and Roger Clemens is really hurting for the 'Stros right about now.  There's still a lot of baseball left, though.  The 2003 Marlins were playing pretty crappy ball, and then after the All-Star break they caught on fire, and wound up winning the World Series.

Wow... Spend some time modding with a guy back in the day and he starts defending the, as Homestarguy aptly put it, abysmal Houston Astros. Nice to know all those hours of scouring the boards were worth it!  Wink

To be fair, yes, the 'Stros are a major long shot. But it seems like they've finally got the hitting aspect figured out after two rough years, and the pitching is coming along nicely. For example, Wandy Rodriguez pitched a gem of a game the other Sunday, seven innings of solid baseball, and the bats provided support. Berkman and Lee are heating up, and our rookie Hunter Pence has been phenonmenal.

Biggio's also been energized by the hype about 3,000, and several of Houston's supporting characters are stepping up, too.

If they don't do it, feel free to mock me, but if they pull it out, remember that there was that one guy who believed...

I'm getting tired of this whole, "We don't really enjoy winning home-games'ness" that the Tigers have been putting on lately.  Especially when we're facing off against the Injuns.

COME ON, RED SOX!

They've been something like 20-23 in the last 43 games? Or something? That's worse than the Royals!

In other news, Coco Crisp. Yeah. I said it.
