Well, depending on where you live, the safe bet is rooting for whoever is your hometown team. But, right now, its the playoffs. If you want to root for anyone on into the World Series, the teams still in the playoffs are Colorado, Philadelphia, Arizona, New York (Yankees), Boston, Los Angeles (Angels), and Cleveland.
Congrats on becoming a fan of our nation's pasttime!
Well, I've always kinda liked the Braves cause they're the closest team to where I live. My friend is a huge Yankees fan, so I've always liked them too.

Well guys, I've started to get into baseball lately thanks to my friend, and I've been watching it alot. Any suggestions what teams I should like/dislike, because I have no idea. I think I like the Yankees and the Braves....
Do not, I repeat, do NOT root for the Yankees. Most people who like the sport, and aren't Yankee fans, will give you loads of grief if they find out that you are a "new" fan of them. If you don't want to be called a bandwagon fan, I'd suggest you not choose the Yankees. And don't even get me started on how they are all that is wrong with baseball... If you're looking for a team to root for in the playoffs this year, I might kindly suggest the Colorado Rockies. Earlier this year they had a coach for one of their minor league teams who was killed during a game- a player hit a ball off his head and the head injury killed him. As the playoffs started, the players on the Rockies voted, and decided to give that man's family (he left behind a wife and some children) a cut of the bonus money that they will make during the playoffs. If they were to make it to the World Series, the family could get over $200,000. The kindness of the players on the Rockies to give some of their money to such a worthy cause is just wonderful, and I hope they win it all this year.

Or you can root for whoever you want to. I'm a Yankees fan. I'm not that into baseball, but I have on and off watched them since 2000.
Yeah, with the Cubs now out, there's really no team I'm that interested in watching except for the Yankees. But, I don't think I'll want to watch as much now that the Cubs are out, as I was really rooting for them.

Wow, that's really honorable of the Rockies. Yeah, really I didn't personally think the Yankees were better than any of the other teams, I was following my friend I guess...

Honestly, it's just cool that you are enjoying baseball. I guess I can't really complain if you do like the Yankees, because it's always good to have fans of the sport. I don't hold the Yankees in high regard at all, and there are many people that feel the same as I do. Then again, there are many people who don't. My views of them are probably a little jaded by the fact that they've been one of the best teams ever, and my favorite team had been awful for the first 21 years of my life. So, although there are many things that I despise about the Yankees, so much so that I could never ever root for them, I won't ever stop somebody from rooting for them. ...Just know, that if you do, you'll be rooting for the wrong team. But hey, somebody is always wrong.

So my Cubs didn't get to win the Series. So what? It was their first year together as a team and the first year of Lou Pinella as their coach.

Well, so much for the Yanks. All the times I would have been interested in seeing are now out. Guess I'm not watching the Series this year.

I'm no fan of the Indians, but boy am I glad they knocked out the Yankees! After yet another year of not making it out of the first round of the playoffs, it'll be very fun to watch the heads roll in the Big Apple.
I have no desire to see either the BoSox or the Indians win, so whoever does, I hope they get creamed by the NL rep in the World Series.

Wait, Red Sox are still in it?
Never mind, there's still one team I'd be interested in watching.

I would be interested in seeing the veteran, playoff-tested Red Sox sweep the young(er) and postseason newcomer (as of late) Indians.

Choosing between the BoSox and the Indians is like picking between broccoli and cauliflour... I don't like either one.

Bad analogy, as I love broccoli but not cauliflower.
So, potthole, I take it then you weren't rooting for the Sox in '04?

I was pulling for them to win. I didn't really have anything against the BoSox until after they won it all on '04. Ever since then their fans have become annoying, snobbish and obnixous. Not unlike the Yankee faithful.
