Nah, that doesn't seem too bad. The cover singer on the other hand is absolutely terrible.

Man, the news keeps pouring in...new stuff about character customization and custom setlists (!).
Source: http://www.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=3607Rock Band - This game looks, feels and plays fantastic. After speaking with a few of the developers/PR peeps I am 100% on board with this title and will probably skip GH3 because of it. The character creation system is excellent and you'll be able to take your avatars over to multiplayer games (which they noted were nearly lag free, even across continents). Hell, you can even pick the mood of your character so I decided to make this totally pathetic emo chick who hated life and she came out perfectly! What I like best about the game besides the admittedly stellar gameplay was the campaign (tour) system. You basically start out in one city and as you get more popular you are able to play different bars/venues... you can even play charity shows! At some point you can play in a battle of the bands to win a van, and if you succeed you can start playing gigs all over the east coast and beyond. They didn't go into detail as to how this scales but they did mention you playing arenas in Tokyo so I imagine when you get big you'll prob. have access to a plane. Another cool element is that you get to create your own set lists, so your shows can be as short or as long as you want and the encores are totally up to you! You can either Rock the art gallery or pull an Axle Rose and bow out after three songs in an packed arena. This game is all about customization and playing a role in the band. Creating your own set list? Awesome idea.

Well after virtually predicting this: I just got it. It's awesome. Sorry to revive but this is actually important. My mom (works for SonyBMG, licenses songs to movies, games, etc.) said the next Guitar Hero game (well, the PS3 version is what she said) is going to have all original masters instead of sound alike recordings, and that they may remake 1 and 2 in this same way.
I would like to announce another (this time maybe unlikely) rumor from another insider. A Rock Band-esque Beatles game is currently being planned by Apple and Harmonix (or Activision, not sure which one he said), in which you can play through the Beatles' entire career. I don't know any specific details such as to the amount of songs that will be in the game, or any gameplay details. I just know that this might (might being a key word) happen, and is only in the stage of negotiations and such. I will keep you posted if I learn anything more.

The licensing for that game would be astronomical. And get ready to fail Tom Saywer 100+ times on drums...that looks crazy.[/font]
After seeing rush live last night, that video seems even more tame.

The licensing for that game would be astronomical.
Also considering that a lot of the licensing would have to be with Michael Jackson, and I don't imagine him to be a very...comfortable...business partner.

Wow, it's like seeing Rain, but not paying to see a bunch of broadway jerks pretending to be the Beatles.

18 Grateful Dead tracks have been confirmed as DLC. Can't find the source, so here's another big quote text...sorry:
Grateful Dead Join Super Group Line-up Coming to Rock Band(TM) PR Newswire Harmonix and MTV Games Partner with Rhino Entertainment to bring 18 Classic Grateful Dead Master Recordings to the Rock Band Videogame Platform September 05, 2007: 08:00 AM EST NEW YORK, Sept. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Harmonix, the leading developer of music-based games, MTV Games, a division of MTV Networks within Viacom , and Rhino Entertainment, a division of Warner Music Group , announced a deal that will bring the legendary band Grateful Dead to the highly anticipated music videogame Rock Band. The iconic group is making 18 master recordings from its diverse catalog available as digitally distributed game levels following Rock Band's release this holiday season. Among the songs available will be the classic Dead tracks "Truckin'," "Uncle John's Band," "Touch of Grey," "Sugar Magnolia," and "Casey Jones.""Grateful Dead's unique fusion of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, and jazz challenged traditional musical boundaries and pushed the limits of creativity to produce a signature sound that is undeniably their own," stated Paul DeGooyer, MTV's Senior Vice President of Audio, Home Video and Electronic Games. "With an enormous legion of fans all over the world, Rock Band will give players a chance to interact with the music of these beloved rock pioneers and experience what Grateful Dead did best - jam from the depths of their souls." Distributed by Electronic Arts , Rock Band is an all-new platform for music fans and gamers to interact with music like never before. The game challenges players to put together a band and tour for fame and fortune - all while learning to master lead/bass guitar, drums and vocals. Built on an unprecedented partnership with artists, record labels and music publishers, the music featured in Rock Band will span the full range of rock music and include original master recordings from the greatest songs and artists of all time. "Grateful Dead, with their 30-year career and their timeless music, are the perfect addition to Rock Band," says Mark Pinkus, Rhino's Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing, Custom Product & Sync Licensing. "It's going to be a blast playing along to songs ranging from the Dead's earliest hit 'Truckin'' to their final hit 'Touch of Grey.' I'm confident that Rock Band will be instrumental in introducing kids to the magical music of Grateful Dead." Grateful Dead's journey ignited in San Francisco's Haight and Ashbury district during the psychedelic '60s. The band, well known for constantly touring, continued to spread their message of peace and love for another three decades with a devoted community of fans known as Dead Heads, many of whom traveled the country with them. Earlier this year, the Recording Academy awarded Grateful Dead a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for its contribution to the evolution of rock music. Grateful Dead is the latest artist to join the vast musical downloadable multi-track master offerings of Rock Band, joining the list of epic artists such as Metallica and The Who's iconic Who's Next album, the first full album scheduled for downloadable content, in addition to the dozens of on-disc tracks spanning every genre of rock from alternative to classic to heavy metal. Rock Band is slated for release on Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft(R) and PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system this Holiday 2007 in North America. For more information on Rock Band and Harmonix Music Systems please visit www.rockband.com and www.harmonixmusic.com. And on the main setlist, a little something for alt rock fans: Celebrity Skin - Hole I Think I'm Paranoid - Garbage Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs Wave of Mutilation - The Pixies

I'm thinking about getting this game, but just with the drums, as I have learned through Singstar and Guitar Hero that I suck at those respective instruments. The drums, however, I've always wanted to play, but have been held back due to my lack musical talent of any kind.

News on the incredible "Band World Tour" mode in Rock Band.http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/puzzle/rockband/news.html?sid=6181200&page=1You'd probably expect each city and each venue to simply represent a tier of unique songs that you can only progress beyond by completing all those songs. (We did.) But the band world tour is far more open-ended and interesting than that. Each venue instead represents a tier of activities that you can undertake, from single-song performances to mystery set lists, which can throw any of the previously unlocked songs at you back-to-back. Later in the game, you'll find more specific challenges, such as a punk marathon that requires you to properly play every punk song in the package, or sponsored events that will feature major contributions from some of the game's licensees, like Fender. To sum it up, this is a (multiplayer only) RPG style mode, where you start off playing small gigs in your characters "hometown", then move up to bigger venues. Along the way, you can win certain challenges to win stuff like vans or planes (which opens up more venues and touring possibilities), hire roadies and agents. And the game keeps track of your fans too, and they're pretty fickle. They'll probably abandon you if you sell out or start playing crappy shows, and you'll notice the crowds at your concerts begin to thin out.
This sounds like the best career/story mode in a rhythm game, ever. (If you can only play single player, you're stuck with the normal Guitar Hero 2 format- tier, encore, next tier. Sorry, people without friends or internet access).

You don't really notice that when you're playing, though. My friend and I were at Best Buy for an hour and a half playing this on Saturday, and we went through Tom Sawyer a number of times. And oddly enough, for me the microphone was the only one not working. They didn't have the extra controller plugged in for it.

Hi everybody!
If you've seen the new OXM, they've reviewed Rock Band: 9.5/10 (That's actually lower than I was expecting.)
"The good-Gaming's most intense Co-op experience, Three solo campaigns and a multiplayer career in one game,
The bad-No bass solo career; no multiplayer career online;vocal more about accuracy than passion"
^Their opinion, not mine.
They also leaked some new downloadable songs:
*PLEASE NOTE THAT PRICING AND RELEASE ARE TBD, THOUGH THE DLC SHOULD ALL COME OUT IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS*
Artist packs come first, followed by genre packs
Police pack: Roxanne, Synchronicity II, Can't Stand Losing You (all masters)
Queens of the Stone Age pack: 3's & 7's, Sick Sick Sick, Little Sister (all masters)
Metallica pack: A three or six song pack, no songs announced yet
Black Sabbath pack: N.I.B, Sweet Leaf, War Pigs (all covers)
David Bowie: Moonage Daydream, Heroes, Queen
Punk Pack: Ever Fallen in Love, by Buzzs (cover) I Fought the Law, by The Clash Rockaway Beach, by Ramones
Single Songs:
Fortunate Son - Credence Clearwater Revival Jukebox Hero - Foreigner My Sharona - The Knack Cherry Bomb - The Runaways Bang a Gong (Get it On) - T. Rex Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother Brass in Pocket - Pretenders My Iron Lung - Radiohead Buddy Holly - Weezer I think Jukebox Hero, My Sharona, and N.I.B. officially cemented this game's status as "Greatest Rhythm Game Ever".
