I honestly don't want a sequel to The Dark Knight.
Even if they do find an actor to play the Joker as brilliantly as Ledger did, the movie as a whole is just too ridiculously awesome to be surpassed.
I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I have yet to find a Threequel that is worth my time. In movies, anyway.EDIT: Let me redeem myself there. Momentarily forgot a few great movies. I have yet to find a threequel in the last ten years that is worth my time. I beg to differ. Also, what movie is "Placeholder"?
And, truthfully, I can't imagine how they could do a movie better than The Dark Knight, but they can still make movies on par with Batman Begins.

Fixed.
I get Spidey 3 and X-Men: Last Stand, but did you not include Episode III because it's technically a prequel, or did you just not like the film?

Because I'm not a big fan of any of the prequels.

Just saw it again. I liked it even better the second time, probably because I picked up on a lot more of the foreshadowing.

Return of the King is not a threequel, as the books were not a series, but one large book that is split into three volumes. But if you do count it as a threequel, Return of the King is the only one worth my time of the four presented there. It's not. It's a placeholder. Cause I couldn't think of another one at the time.

The Merging is complete.

If we're being picky, the LotR 'trilogy' was actually six books. I'd think it would count as a threequel anyways cause we're talking about movies, aren't we?

Spider-Man 3 is one of the most embarassing movies I've ever seen, but that might just be me. Every time I think about Peter dancing in the club and/or giving the girls on the street "the guns" it makes me pretty uncomfortable.

Yeah, I tend to skip over those parts when I watch the film, but really, honestly, what makes it good for me is once Peter realized what he had become. Once he struggles to take off the suit, it gets a lot better...sorta like in Spidey 2 how once he realized he couldn't stop being Spider-Man it picked up. And, the end battle with Sandman and Venom was pretty good.
Anyways, about Dark Knight. I saw it three times opening weekend: Friday regular, Saturday IMAX, and Sunday regular.
Wow. I was completely blown away Friday. I could not believe how incredible and awesome the movie was. Heath Ledger easily stole the spotlight. I never once tired of seeing the Joker, even during my third viewing. That is exactly how the Joker is in the comics.
I loved how they did Two-Face. It looked straight out of the comic book and yet totally realistic. I also liked how instead of just making him a villain, they made him more of the vigilante style that the Punisher is, one who will kill the criminal.
As for Batman himself, Christian Bale did excellent as well. I liked how even business dealings were used to aid Batman. That's something that is totally Bruce Wayne: he doesn't go into business dealings to make money, but to aid him as Batman whether it's technology or information. I thought he was at his best in that last scene with Two-Face. He was desperately trying to change Two-Face's mind and stop him from doing something terrible, and it was obvious that Batman was not wanting to fight him, not like he was with the Joker.
And, for the first time (yes, even for a comic book geek like me), I finally understand why Two-Face decides things on a flip of a coin. I knew it was a mental thing, but I never knew why he justified using it. Thing is, in a way, it's true what he said. Chance can't be biased or bought. It is 100% fair.
One thing that was cool, and yet at the same time creepy, was how the Joker even got to the audience, at least during the Friday showing. Just about everytime the Joker did something violent, blowing up the hospital for example, the audience was laughing because of something the Joker did. When you're laughing at explosions, you know the Joker has even gotten to you. That just shows how Heath Ledger had created the perfect portrayal of the Joker, and why you will see me oh so completely ticked off and furious if he does not get an Oscar for his performance, because it was a truly breathtaking performance.
Gary Oldman was excellent as Gordon. I first saw him in Prisoner of Azkaban, and since then I've seen a few of his other movies, and I think he did even better in this film than he did in Order of the Phoenix, and I thought he was at his best then. What I liked was how even though he was a supporter of Batman, he didn't just let Batman do all the work. Instead, he worked with Batman, and I really liked how the first time they got Joker, it was Gordon who ended up capturing Joker, not Batman.
The Dark Knight has now surpassed Return of the King as my favorite movie of all time. RotK is still #2, but Dark Knight trumps it. Truth is, I don't know if they can do a Batman film that surpasses Dark Knight. But, if they're all at the same level as Batman Begins, than I will have no problem with them making more films. Now that I've seen Dark Knight, the next film this year I'm really looking forward to is Quantum of Solace.
This movie was so amazing, it deserves a higher score. So I give the Dark Knight a 7...out of 5.

I heard that Christian Bale has stated he will stop being Batman if Robin is ever introduced into this series. Anyone have any word on whether this is true or not?

I don't think jumping ship on such a successful franchise is a great idea, but then again I seriously doubt that Robin would be introduced to this series...he really wouldn't fit in at all.

Well, Christopher Nolan, director of Batman Begins and Dark Knight, as said that as long as he's directing the films, Robin will not appear because "Robin would still be in diapers." Now, that's really not true, as Batman in the comics was only by himself for a year before Robin was introduced, but having Dick Grayson, who is supposed to be 12 or 13 when he loses his parents, be an accomplished enough fighter and gymnast to aid Batman is something that really only cartoons can pull off. Trying to do that live action wouldn't work very well I don't think. I don't know though about Bale.

I'm really not sure who they're going to bring in for the next movie, if there is going to be one. The rest of Batman's rogue's gallery doesn't seem to really fit with Nolan's franchise. The Riddler is a little too similar to the Joker, The Penguin tends to lack the ability to be a physical foil to Batman (though he does wield a mean umbrella), and I don't think Catwoman is "bad" enough to act as the central villain of a film (plus, I wouldn't be surprised if DC wasn't too keen on bringing the character back). Batman's got some great villains, but I don't know if any of them can follow up The Joker/Two-Face. Plus, I hear Nolan wants to (mostly) focus on enemies who have never appeared onscreen. The only one that comes to mind is Bane, who is shown to be both a physical and mental challenge for Batman. Though he has already been represented onscreen too...

Eh, only Jim Carrey's portrayal of the Riddler is similar to the Joker. I like The Batman's version of the Riddler the best. And, they could have a great story of the Riddler toying with Batman with his riddles. Add in a version of Catwoman more like Michelle Pfeiffer than Halle Berry (who wasn't even Selena Kyle in that movie!), and you'd have a great story. Bane would be a good choice, because he totally needs to be redone from that horrible Batman and Robin version.
The only villains of Batman that haven't appeared in a film yet that are well known are Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Clayface, Firefly, Man-Bat, Mad Hatter, and Scarface. Now, of those, Harley Quinn could only appear with the Joker, so she's most likely out (which is too bad, that would have been kinda cool to have her in this film, although it probably would have slowed things down a bit, so maybe it was a good idea that they didn't have her). Killer Croc would be cool, except it's looking like the Lizard may be a villain in Spider-Man 4, so if Spidey 4 and the new Batman film come out the same summer (which it's sort of looking like right now), then having Killer Croc and Lizard would be overkill of lizard-like villains. Clayface would be too much like Sandman I think. Firefly would have to be one of two villains, as would Man-Bat and Mad Hatter. Really, the only other villain that hasn't been done that would be a great stand-alone or major villain would be Scarface. Actually, I sorta like that idea of them doing Scarface. He could even hire someone like Firefly, who is sorta like Mysterio (so, if Mysterio is the Spidey villain, than doing Firefly would be a bad idea unless he was more like how he is in The Batman). Man-Bat, possibly, but again, if Man-Spider is done, bad idea (wow, first time I've noticed the similarities between Spidey's villains and Bat's villains).
