Yeah, Sprint's Sanyo Katana is way better than the Razor.

And, BHC, I've never heard anyone paying $50 a month for their cell phone, unless you have multiple people on your plan and that's the combined amount of all of them.

I have a Motorola W385.

The charm used to have a small bell on it, but I was really sick of jingling after a couple of days, so I took it off.

It works very well as a phone. I've had it for about a month, and so far I've heard things more clearly than I did on my previous phone, the battery lasts longer (18.8 days on standby) and there's not very much to complain about. I'd love if it were a bit thinner and had a larger inside LCD, but it works well for me anyways.

The camera is nothing to write home about, but Verizon was practically giving away these phones. I don't text very much, so I can't give an accurate opinion on the keypad. Bluetooth seems to work, I've only tried it with a school iBook, so I don't know if there are any limitations in terms of what can be transferred. My computer recognizes my phone when plugged in via USB, but doesn't know what to do with it. Motorola sells CDs with drivers and software, but Verizon may or may not have disabled image/audio transfer. In the meantime, lacking software and anything Bluetooth, I email my pictures to myself.

I split 700 minutes with 5 family members, and I get 250 texts/picture messages a month for 5 bucks. I always keep it off during school, on the off chance that someone texts me from another class or calls me from jail, and I almost always keep it on vibrate. I don't have any ringtones or wallpapers, so my current wallpaper is a photo of a friend posing in order to look as clueless as possible.

And, BHC, I've never heard anyone paying $50 a month for their cell phone, unless you have multiple people on your plan and that's the combined amount of all of them.
I'm pretty sure I know a friend who, at the ripe age of 16, pays $50 a month for his bill.

I'm at $45 a month, and that's without any extra packages as part of my bill (texting, internet, audio services, etc.).  Pop in even one of those, and I'm up and over $50 per month.

Really? That's interesting. My friend just signed up for a Sprint plan two Saturdays ago, and she's only $30. And, the plan I'm on has my parents, grandparents, and one sister and brother-in-law, and that's about $15 a person. Maybe Sprint is just way cheaper.

Family share plans usually break down to be cheaper- you have more people to share and offset the cost.  Before I got my current phone I was on one with my parents and brother and was only paying between $25 and $30 a month.

Yeah, but my friend is on a plan all by herself, and she's only $30.

I wish Sprint carried iPhones. I'd somehow get the money to buy one.

Humm.  Maybe Sprint does offer a really low price, then.  I know some people that got a plan years ago, and although rates have increased by their carrier's lowest priced plan, they were grandfathered in at their old rates.

Boom!  I have a Nokia 6630!

It's a pretty cool phone.  It's got a sound recorder, so I can have non-money-costing ringtones.  I can record videos, which is one of my favorite features.
It's actually a prototype of the 6630, even tho it already came out.  Hence, the web browser ABSOLUTELY DOESN'T WORK.
Still, it's a very cool phone.

As mentioned earlier, I have a Sprint Sanyo Katana (1st Gen), that I've had for about a year and a half.

I don't use it for much other than calling people. I occasionally take a picture or two, or play Vijay Singh Pro Golf. I don't text or use internet, so I have those features disabled. Also, I don't use it at school.  Smiley

I like the phone. It has bluetooth, which is cool, but I rarely use it (partly because I forgot my Sprint bluetooth password thing). The interface is okay, but it kick's the RAZR's butt in that department (my mom has a RAZR, and experiences the same battery problem explained by Carlton).

+1 for the Katana. The Katana is the best slimline phone out there.

Now you guys have traveled into my territory. I actually sell Cingular/AT&T and Sprint phones as my job.

Here are my two phones:

On left, the Motorola Slvr. On the right, the Motorola Razr (Mine is actually black, not silver). Both of mine are through AT&T, the best cell phone service out there.

I personally prefer Motorola phones and any Windows Mobile phone, due to the fact that they are easy to hack. I have both my Motorola phones running so that they look like they have Windows Vista on them.

I just recently bumped up to the Slvr from the Razr. Don't be fooled by it's small size. It has every single feature the Razr has, plus it has iTunes in it and a memory card slot. So, I can more or less use it just like an iPod. Take a look:

For those of you badmouthing the Razr, you don't know what you're talking about. The Razr is a good phone, if you get it through the right carrier. Both the Sprint and Verizon Razrs are of shoddy quality compared to the GSM Razr's. Verizon even took quite a few features out of their Razr.

As for the iPhone, if you want to waste your money, go for it!

The Katana is indeed a good phone. In fact, all of Sanyo's products are top notch. They've been voted the "Best Cell Phone Manufacturer" 5 out of the past 6 years by JD Power. However, they aren't as well known because they only make phones exclusively for Sprint.

As for the family plan argument, family plans do in fact save you money. Both Sprint and AT&T offer a $29.99 plan, but that only gives you 200-250 minutes (Depends on the carrier). However, neither company wishes to promote that they even have these plans (AT&T's is reserved to only those over 55). For $59.99, you can get family plans that have 550 minutes. So, effectively, you are getting 50 minutes free a month for the same price. The more phones you add, the more you save. Take the $59.99 single line plan for 900 minutes. Well, if you wanted two lines on their own accounts, then it would cost you $119.98 each with 900 minutes (1800 minutes total). For $109.99, you can get a 2100 minute family share plan. So for $10 less, you get 300 more minutes a month.

Side note: I friggin' love my plan through work. $30.12 a month after taxes. 2000 minutes a month, unlimited texting, 200 picture/multimedia texts, and unlimited web access.

I don't know too much about the RAZR, but my brother-in-law does. He worked at Radioshack for about 3 years up until about a month ago.  Radioshack sells Sprint, Nextel, and AT&T, and he said that the RAZRs for all of them were pretty lousy. Based on that, and the fact that several of my friends here at school that have RAZRs have had problems with them, I tend to not think highly of them. I'm not sure what you mean by GSM RAZR.

That is cool about the Slvr having iTunes. I hadn't heard that. I'd still like an iPhone, due to the huge amount of memory, and just how customizable they are.

I'm curious, though, where do you work?

If you have a GSM Razr, it operates on a different kind of network than a CDMA Razr. You could use your GSM Razr in Europe (if you had the right kind of plan), but a CDMA Razr isn't compatible and would not get service. The kind you can get depends on your carrier.
